This sounds a lot like "A Princess of Mars" by Edgar Rice Burroughs A Princess of MarsHere's a typical cover of the book (there have been many covers) showing the four-armed monsters https://www.pinterest.com/pin/2068841...

Thanks for responding, Andy. The cover is very similar but there is only monsters on the cover and no princess in the storyline.
also sounds like Hunters of a Red Moon by marion zimmer bradly but no 4 armed monsters on the cover, but i believe he did fight some that had 4 arms in the book
Maybe one of the World of Tiers series by Philip Jose Farmer? While I'm not seeing a cover with a four armed foe, the main characters encounter a variety of different locales and creatures on the World of Tiers and other worlds throughout the series. The first one is The Maker of Universes.
Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote quite a few books set on Mars (Barsoom, as the natives call it!), so I suggest that even if it isn't "Princess of Mars" it could be one of his others. His books feature four-armed green Martians, as well as the more human-looking red Martians. So I suspect you're looking for one of his other Mars books. Bearing in mind that they have all been reprinted heaps of times and had lots of covers, I suggest trying these - see if any of these rings a bell. The Gods of Mars
The Warlord of Mars
Swords of Mars
If it helps to jog your memory, John Carter was a veteran of the Confederate Army who fell asleep in a cave and was somehow transported to Mars/Barsoom. Burroughs was never a stickler for what one might call "scientific accuracy."

Tahera wrote: "I think you might be talking about John Carter..."Thanks Tahera. It sounds similar but John Carter is not the book I'm looking for.
Jandar Of Callisto is the first of a series of 6 or 8 books. There are insect men in it, but I don't recall if they used swords or any of the book covers. Basically Carter ripped off ERB, so it's a lot like the Barsoom (John Carter) series.
Probably not, since I don't recall any of the volumes having a cover like you describe, but Kenneth Bulmer's John-Carter-ish "Dray Prescot" series also has a race of four-armed warriors:https://www.goodreads.com/series/5675...

Thanks for replying Stephen. I'll have to check this author out, the book sounds interesting.

I'm thinking of a couple of series by Dave Duncan:
Magic Casement -- first in a series called A Man of His Word.
The Reluctant Swordsman: the first in The Seventh Sword series
It has been so long since I've read them that I'm conflating the two, but one or both would have requisite monsters. There are many editions (paperback) so the cover varies.
Also ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 173 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!
