Yes, 4-5 weeks from where you are in the world would be more relaxed.

Kristie | 19142 comments Nice, Cherie. We are driving my grandson home. Yesterday was a long traveling day. We listened to the end of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and Foreverywhere by Steve Burns. Then, while he played on the iPad I finished Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Elevation by Stephen King. I plan to listen to Miracle Creek by Angie Kim on the way home tomorrow. I hope you have a nice vacation.

I don’t think I have any good ideas for you, Peggy. I haven’t done too much overseas travel. However, I’m getting some good ideas here. :) I still have Australia on my bucket list, as well as a few others.

Being geographically isolated in the world can be a blessing because it means we don't have masses of tourists, but then we really want to share our beautiful places.

Rusalka commented that you have already been in our neck of the woods. I haven't visited Europe (apart from Spain a few years ago, and Iceland and Norway next year). Maybe I'll see the rest of Europe one day.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I'm off on holiday tomorrow. We are going to the Scottish Highlands again, my all-time favourite place. We are staying in a little bed and breakfast in a really quaint little village this year and I seriously cannot wait to get there. This holiday is very much needed as we have had a very stressful year so far for one reason and another. Some peace and quiet is just what the doctor ordered.

Sarah | 18550 comments I can't believe what's going on here with the government and Brexit at the moment. When you think it can't get any worse, it does. After people going on about honouring the referendum to retain a democracy then closing down parliament so others don't get a say in what happens?!? Err, hello!

Oh Sarah, it is hard to believe that parliament has let it come to this. It 8s tempting to blame to blame it all on Boris, and indeed he has throw democracy out the window, but all parties must be held to blame for not working together. I am in dread of the news as it is all BREXIT, BREXIT, BREXIT. You couldn't make this stuff up.

We're already seeing a huge increase in shopping bills. Up to 25% on some items. Some of my medicines are getting hard to come by. I see a lot more generics in my monthly meds - they're not supposed to give me generics because of the dyslexia. Sometimes Inam getting notes from the pharmacy that only half of my meds are immediately available, can I call next week for the remainder. I think this is probably due to the big chains stock-piling supplies. I have often wondered what would happen if I just tak8ng my meds anb now I could be about to find out!

And this is only pre-brexit!!!

I am very worried that violence will errupt in the border counties. The good friday agreement is almost dead in the water. Sinn Finn are not sounding at all reasonable and as for the DUP .........@#$₩

We cannot go back to a hard border.

message 1725: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Margo, we're having issues here in Canada with meds as well. I had to have one of my prescriptions changed because the supplier isn't sending any. Turned out to my benefit. Two months supply of the original was over $70.00. The new medication is $18.00 for the same amount!

The pharmacist says it's not just this medication, but several that they are in short supply. My doctor said that it's all politics.

message 1726: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments Janice, I had something similar happen last month. I have a med that I was paying $70 per month for. The pharmacist asked if I’d like to have it filled as a 3 month supply instead. I said yes, but was concerned that I might have to pay $210 to pick it up the next time. When I went to pick it up it was still $70. I don’t understand insurance at all. It is the same price for a one month supply as a three month supply? Ok... I’ll take that.

message 1727: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I'm not sure how your insurance works. I wonder if they made a mistake and charged you the same price.

Here, my medical needs are covered by the province. It doesn't cover things like medications, dental work, eye care. Those secondary services are often covered by group insurance plans. Since I'm self-employed, I don't have any coverage and pay 100% for my meds. When I turn 65, I'll be automatically placed on Alberta Blue Cross and it will cover a percentage of my meds.

message 1728: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19142 comments Our healthcare and insurance is so messed up down here. Every plan is so different. The one I have right now is pretty crappy.

As far as a mistake, it's possible. The pharmacist said that was the price. I asked, "for three months?" They said yes. I wasn't going to argue with them.

message 1729: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I wouldn't argue either. ;)

message 1730: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Margo - Yes it is all very worrying. I am very concerned about medical supplies. I read an article earlier today on the BBC website that said we are likely to have problems with getting enough flu vaccines this winter. There has been a delay generally about which strains will be included in the vaccine which has meant production started late. Our supplies, specifically for those under 65 and at-risk (which includes me) won't arrive until after 31 October (it gets imported in). So if a no-deal Brexit, they won't get through. Apparently, the flu season in Australia is pretty bad this year (Rusalka will be able to give us a better picture on this) and it usually follows like that here too (at least it has the last few years). We could have some problems if there aren't enough flu vaccines. The healthcare workers who would normally have the vaccine to stop them getting ill might find they have to have time off if they catch it. So more strain on NHS, higher mortality rate etc.

The last 3 years I contracted flu and it floored me for weeks because it messed up my asthma. I need that flu jab, at the beginning of the flu season! I'm also worried about my asthma medication.

I said to Rob earlier if no-deal happens, we might have to go on holiday to get a flu jab and some inhalers! That said, I'd have to pay as I wouldn't be entitled to them for free now!

It's not just medical supplies we'll have problems with, but anything that is imported in will be delayed if no deal goes through. So they'll be food shortages and price hikes etc. It really is a scary prospect.

Yes the Irish border is really very worrying and what will happen with a hard border with no-deal.

I really can't understand how anybody in their right mind would actually want a no-deal Brexit. It doesn't make sense.

message 1731: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments I think I am lucky in some ways. I get first call on the flu vaccine. My lupus has my immune system so compromised that any flu could be fatal. This means my hospital calls and I get my vaccine before the rest of the population.

I have one med right now that cost 3000 a month. That's more then most make in a month I dread if its price goes up. Insurance regularly tries to find me something else. I would gladly take something else. Its side affects can be nasty. But so far its the only one that works.

message 1732: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Flu season here this year has been very long, started in March and it usually starts May/June. And has been virulent. There have been lots and lots of hospitalisations of young, healthy people who ended up in ICU very quickly with the virus. I am not sure it's been as deadly as last year, but I may be wrong. I do know the hospitalisation rate is massive though. Doctors also think it will last right into summer too.

I agree with the whole Brexit thing. I am really worried for you all. Medicines, fuel, food, all seem to be something that may be in short supply very quickly. And it seems criminal to me that the government has known about this for ages (leaked docs prove this) and have done nothing to plan for it.

And don't even start me on the Irish border. There is no way anyone can go in to that situation not knowing what could happen. It fricking morally corrupt.

My thoughts exactly. I know I am looking at this from the outside, but I can't understand why people want Brexit. No-deal Brexit is just so absurd! Sounds like a whim to me.

Sarah, They don't want no deal, but everyone wants THEIR deal! Yes, the flu vaccine is worrying. Whatever chance I have recovering from a dose, I don't think my 80 year old mother would.

Rob downloaded the album a few days ago, apparently it leaked out. He's been playing it non-stop, it's driving me crazy! I think Tool is great, but not in these amounts. It works on my nerves somehow. I think I heard him say 7empest is his favourite too.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments No I didn't do the whole Tool experience. I downloaded it today. I saw it leaked but after so many years what's a few more days. I'm mixed about it. So heavily instrumental. May need to grow on me a bit. With the instrumentals it's almost "too Toolish".

Annerlee | 2871 comments Just popping in to see what everyone's up to. Haven't been around much recently as I don't have the internet at home just now, but i've decided to invest in some data and set up my mobile as a hotspot for the laptop (laptop was acquired two weeks back), so I'm getting there slowly.

I loved your Iceland Pics Peggy. What a great app!

Seems like there are lots of travel plans beng made just now. I made it across the sea to Aberdeen at the weekend - went to see the trees in Aberdeenshire (near Banchory) . I miss trees!! It was a bit early for Autumn colours, but the greenery was beautiful - and the smell of pine needles and damp Earth.. amazing!!

I'm still in temporary accomodation, waiting for somewhere more permanent to come up, so I'm still in a bit of limbo at the moment, but enjoying life and reading loads!

Peggy and Margo - hope you both get better soon!

Annerlee | 2871 comments And this whole Brexit thing is getting to me too. I'm avoiding the TV as much as I can - it's so depressing.

In Shetland, the fisherman are all raving about how wonderful things will be when they get their fishing grounds back - as if that's about to happen! I think they're one of the few groups that are looking forward to Brexit. They're so dead against the European Fishing Policy. Not sure who they want to sell the fish to . And many of the people processing their fish are from Eastern Europe, so how's that going to work?

Crazy, crazy. If it were a sit com I would find the whole thing too far fetched.

message 1744: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments You nailed it Annerlee with it resembling a far fetched sitcom. What's happening is ridiculous .I have gone the opposite way to you and have been obsessing checking the live feeds on the news websites, especially today. It's all so dire. I agree, the scenes from the house last night were farcical. We have been the complete opposite to Annerlee - glued to the TV. Pete is so disgusted with the behaviour of the MPs. We are enjoying the performance of the Speaker of the House though!
