Kristie | 19143 comments Have a wonderful holiday, Peggy! I'd love to visit Iceland some day. I also heard that it's beautiful there.

Enjoy Iceland Peggy!

I just love Sundays. Coffee pot is on, a book or two by my side, catching up on goodreads, watching a bit of booktube, doing a bit of cross stitch, chicken in the one pot for dinner, today is going to be a good day!

Happy Sunday everyone!

Yup, happens all the time. I can't risk entering a building that hasn't been checked for people walking the ceiling with those suction cup thingies. This face and body are my curse *sighs deeply and covers face*.

Kristie | 19143 comments A new little boy just moved into my neighborhood this weekend and my grandson made friends with him. Today they were playing outside and came back with a big bag of canned goods. Apparently, my grandson decided they should collect food for the homeless and they went door to door asking my neighbors if they had any spare cans of food they could donate.

I have to admit I was torn between being really proud of him for thinking of the homeless people and wanting to discipline him for going around to people's homes without asking me first.

Now, I just need to figure out where we can donate the food locally. I'm sure there are places near us.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Kristie, your grandson has some initiative, doesn't he? :)

Kristie | 19143 comments He seems to have found it this summer. lol

His mother did this when she was his age too. I remember she really wanted horseback riding lessons and she went through the phone book and called all the local horse farms until she found one that would give her lessons in exchange for working with the horses, cleaning out stalls, etc. She also went door-to-door offering to walk people's dogs while they were at work for something like a dollar a walk. She ended up getting so many dogs that she had to hire one of her friends to help her. Those were both 10-11 years old. That seems to be the age in our family. It's so funny for me to see him doing stuff like this.

Hopefully, he keeps this going and applies it to school and other things.

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Someone broke into my car in the early hours of the morning. My neighbor said it was around 4:30 because he heard them routing around in the back of his truck.

Fortunately, they didn't break the windows. I'm not sure how they got in, though. It was locked. They took about $2 in loose change, some pens, my iPhone cable, some CD's, a package of Wet One Wipes, and my yoga bag with pillow & blanket. They left the most expensive thing which was my yoga mat worth $100.00. (Phew!)

The thing I'm sad about is the pillowcase on the pillow. My friend made the 3 of us that chum together the pillowcase out of fabric with women on the beach. There were sayings on it about girlfriends. :(

message 1616: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Janice, how frustrating! I'm sorry about the pillowcase. :(

message 1617: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Oh no, Janice! So weird what they took. Sorry about the pillow case. Glad they left the yoga mat at least.

Sarah | 18550 comments How frustrating Janice. Definitely an odd combination of things they took.

message 1620: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh Janice - what a shame. Sorry to hear about the pillow case.

message 1621: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments They took pretty much what as in the car. I think they move so fast, they just grab what's there.

message 1622: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments Yes, they don't take the time to see what they are grabbing. My daughter's car was broken into once and they smashed the window to get in. I'm not sure the car was even locked. They stole her bag of dirty gym clothes off the seat, but didn't notice her wallet sitting in her door. Not the best criminals...

message 1623: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Sorry to hear about your theft. It makes you feel so violated. Hope you are okay.

message 1624: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Thanks Renee. I'm okay. I'm annoyed, but grateful that there was nothing of real value. It will make me rethink how I do things. I often put my wallet in the glove box when I go to yoga. That won't be happening any more. If they somehow access the vehicle electronically, they can get in quickly and easily without causing any suspicion in a parking lot.

message 1625: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Oh Janice, what rotten luck. It's horrible to someting so personal and special stolen from you. It's scary how easily those people can access your property using technology.

Sarah | 18550 comments It was my last day at work yesterday before my holiday. Heading to the airport tomorrow where we'll stay overnight then we fly out on Saturday morning to Austria. I'm so in need of a holiday. Things have been really stressful this last month or so what with Rob's bath, the van fiasco, and me being unwell. We're going to be staying in the Austrian alps on a massive lake and the weather should be pretty warm by the looks of it. Annoyingly, I'm still unwell. I've had abdominal pain for the last 2 weeks and on some occasions, it's pretty severe. I'm just hoping I get some respite on holiday.

message 1627: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Sarah, I didn't know about all the last month events. I hope you enjoy your trip and rest. And I hope your pain ceases. Maybe being less stressed will help.

message 1628: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments That sounds like a beautiful holiday Sarah. I hope it is restful for you and your abdominal issues clear up once some of the stress is removed. How is Rob’s back doing? That was pretty scary.

The console was cleaned bare and I couldn't think of everything that was in it until I went to get the mail yesterday. The mail key was also taken. All they have to do is go to the mail box at the end of the street and try each box until they find the one that opens. I do have other keys for it, but put in a request for the lock and keys to be changed. That will cost me another $30.00.

My neighbor knocked on the door last night at 10:30 to tell me he saw a guy scoping out the back yards. He had a backpack on his back. My neighbor saw him walk between my car and the other neighbor's truck to get to my backyard. My lawn mower sits in the corner. As soon as I get dressed I'll go out and check it.

My other neighbor made a deal with me. He was building a shed and offered to let me keep my mower in it if he could use it. The shed is built, he's been using my mower, but my mower isn't in the shed yet. A couple weeks ago he mentioned that he needed to get me a key for the shed. The mower will be in that shed tonight! Enough! Or I'll buy a shed, lock my mower in it and the deal is off.

message 1632: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks guys. @Sandra - it's easy to miss posts on here and i didn't really go into much detail about it all either. @Kristie - it's still stiff and occasionally he gets a twinge. Which is fantastic. He's back at work now too. He's using up his holiday so he only does 4 days a week up until end of September. @Janice - i hope the lawn mower is still there. Great deal with your neighbour! I hope your post box lock gets changed fast.

message 1633: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments Sarah I envy you. I live in Chicago. Chicago is fairly flat. Mountains always thrill me. I love the colors and shapes. Seeing the Alps is one of my dreams.

Janice I send you my support and prayers. The betrayal one feels after being robbed is awful. Even little things that didn't mean much hurt. You also get the well meaning people who say things like at least no one got hurt. Well someone did. You were hurt by the items being taken. Let your self be angry. You did not deserve that

message 1634: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Ok. The mail key would have got me outraged

I mean it all would but especially the mail key

Renee, thanks for your comments. There's part of me that says it's no big deal. But, I dreamt about it the other night, so I guess it impacted me more than I realized.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm back home! Iceland was insanely beautiful. Especially in the south we saw such extreme features of nature. Immense glaciers and waterfalls and geysirs and steaming earth, and all sooooo impressive! The north was beautiful too, but the weather was much worse there (5C, rain, wind, cloudy so the mountains were always obscured). The last 3 days were partly sunny and a bit warmer, but with super strong winds.

One of my favourite things was a boat trip we made on a rubber boat in between the icebergs on a glacial lake. And we drove to a colony of hundreds of puffins, so cute! They were only about 1-2 metres away!

If you want to see a map of our trip and some pics (almost all of them made by Rob), have a look here: https://www.polarsteps.com/PeggyBonge...

Kristie | 19143 comments Welcome back, Peggy! Glad you had such a nice trip. The pictures are beautiful. I love the way he connected them to a map so you can see where you were while looking at the picture. Great idea.

message 1642: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I discovered the polarsteps app a day before we left and thought I'd give it a go. Rob loves taking pics but he hates selecting them for an album. So he did most of the pics and I did the app. It has an option to track you automatically so that instead of a straight line from A to B, you see the actual route. Not 100% accurate (especially because Iceland doesn't have phone network everywhere) but close enough. I think it's a great way to have a memory of your trip! I'm going to make a real album with many more photos too though.

I put all our previous trips in the app as well (not in as much detail as Iceland) so that I have an overview of where I've been. It's looks great :D Everything from a weekend within the Netherlands to our one-year trip. It gives you some nice statistics too! For example, we've been to 40 countries which is 20% of the world. And in total, in the 15 years we've been together, we spent 739 days travelling. That's 2 years of our 15 years!

message 1643: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19143 comments That's so cool! I'm going to have to give that app a try.
