Watcha Doin' - 2019

Travis, it's great to hear that you can trip the light fantastic with your daughter. Did she stand on top of your feet which you made the moves?

Correction, that should be 96%

I'll bet he didn't threaten to trade you off to the Indians for a canoe. (his words, not mine)."
Not exactly those words, but often very similar sentiments :P

That's a great turn out Rus. We're lucky to hit 60% here. I just don't like the sound of compulsory voting though. At times I swear I'mnot going to bother as none of the candidates are worthy of office but so far I have always turned out if just to keep someone out of government. In fact, sad to say, that is my usual motivation!

If you don't vote, someone will. If you don't vote against someone you don't like or don't think worthy, you can't stop them for getting in. If you vote, you can make your opinion known.
Here, you turn up, get marked off and that's it. You don't have to vote. You have to turn up. You can draw a ... donkey on a paper. You can put in a blank paper. You can get marked off and bugger off and buy a sausage or not. You have to appear on a saturday and can't be blocked by work, and that's it. Most of us do something as we are there.
Is it perfect? No. I mean, I have literally been in tears for an hour as my country has shown that they are a mean hearted, dispassionate, racist, religious, reactive, homophobic, anti social welfare, anti climate change people. And I am so fricking angry and actually, honestly completely despairing about this.
But I voted. I did all I could to impact my seat and that's good. And I have never heard a good argument for why you shouldn't have compulsory voting. You are an adult that uses services and pays taxes and the like, your responsibility is to spend 20 mins of your time standing in a queue and numbering boxes every 3 years.

Oh, that's a shame! I used it to ever since we did the serial killing challenge.

Sad. I used it a lot.

I'm with Rusalka on compulsary voting. I think it should be the case everywhere. Even if it means spoiling your ballot papet.
Congrats Renee!
There was a morris dancing festival in the nearby town today. My cousin came to visit so we had a wonder around town and saw them pergorm. It's so very English. We had a nice walk and pub lunch.

OK, over here, we don't get to buy sausages LOL
We have voting for something or other roughly once a year. It is always on a Thursday which is very arward for people working working/studying away from home. This is one of my biggest bugbears - they constantly complain that young people don't turn out but for those who are in college, a midweek vote is often logistically not possible. It is not easy to reregister at a new address and takes at least 3 months to process.
For me, most of my hospital days are on a Thursday so I often have to drag myself, exhausted, to the polling station and when I get there there in no disabled access *GRRR*. One year I had to in a wheelchair and all of the pens that you use to make your mark were on chains that didn't reach low enough!!
I have never missed a vote as there is always someone I want to keep out but TBH, it makes no real difference here as it is a two horse race and both parties are centre left. I don't blame anyone for not turning out. The system would need to change a lot to enable compulsory voting.
The main argument here voting is that people died so you could have this right. I always reply, "No, people died so I could have this option."

Enjoy your retreat Janice. I'm sure it will be nice to unplug for a little while.

What you get?

Please consider that this Sunday is our 25th wedding anniversary - could there be any worse omen? Ran screaming into the living room scaring Pete half to death, shouting something along line of "WE'RE DOOMED! WE'RE DOOMED!".
To cut a long st9ry short, Pete calmly removed the sink trap - I mean, it didn't even take a screwdriver - and nestled in the middle of all the goo *ugh!!* and hairs was my grannies wedding ring - yes, I forgot to mension it was my grans :-) Clever hubby 💖
I have a day at the pain clinic tomorrow to get shot full of steroids, home, vote if I have the energy, than we are off to the lake for the weekend hotel break to celebrate in style 😊😊😊

Oh, voting in uk today. What kind of turnout was there Lisa? I bet it was low which will give Ferage a better chance of getting in. I want
to vote tomorrow if is can at all. We don't have any far right parties here but we do have far left which are equally destructive.
I want green party down the line!

I would have panicked too, Margo! Glad that you recovered it, though. And congrats on your 25th anniversary. We did 21 last January... a life...

As Sarah said, turnout stats haven't been released yet, Margo. I have read that they think turnout was quite low but not as low as it has been in previous European elections. The results of the election won't be known until Sunday but they are anticipating a big win for the Brexit Party, with the Conservatives and Labour taking a battering. I'm not surprised in the least as it seems a lot of people, whether they voted Leave or Remain in the referendum, are sick of the way the government and the opposition have handled the Brexit process. It certainly appears that way from a lot of the comments and discussions I have seen online anyway. This whole fiasco has only served to highlight how far politics in the UK has fallen over the past few years.

Yeah... nah. This was a class 1 UK cock up. Some one should get locked up for this one, borderlines on voter fraud.

we also also have local elections and a referendum to shorten the time couples need to be separated before being granted a divorce but I've been told bed rest for the day. I didn't admit to our weekend away :O

Glad your procedure went well, Margo. Hopefully you will make it out to vote.

Can't wait . Someone who will make our pollies look vaguely human I guess."
Lol! What a clown! 🤡

Mind you, two of the other rumoured front runners are Jeremy Hunt (who was an awful Health Secretary) and Michael Gove who is little more than a snake in the grass who would probably stab himself in the back if he thought he would gain from it. The mind boggles!

@Rus - our voting is today! I am in the irish republic :-)
Ugh - ABB - anyone but boris!

I was talking about your weekend away.
Have fun voting though! I don't understand how you are all voting in the same election at different times. And I can't keep up with when each of the 28 of you are voting. It's all very odd. My coworker is Belgian, and she had to go to the Embassy to vote on our Wed night.

I'm guessing it's Dominic Raab and Andrea Leadsom. Dominic Raab was Brexit Secretary for a while but he quit as he said he couldn't work with May as she just wasn't listening to anyone or anything. Andrea Leadsom is a Brexiteer and she actually ran for party leadership (against May) during the last Conservative leadership bid after David Cameron stepped down. She pulled out in the end as she wasn't getting a great deal of support from the Tory ministers which is how we ended up with May as leader and PM.

I'm going to dive right into Cardinal Black and take my chances. I probably should read Freedom of the Mask again, but I'm lazy.
