I'm sitting waiting after my flu shot for 5 mins so catching up on these posts. I thought GRRM may get a kick up the bum with the new season. it would annoy me a little as an author if they didn't do things like I wanted them too. but to be fair and not author shaming, ... he's had years.

I'm starting to wonder if Patrick Rothfuss will ever finish 'The Kingkiller Chronicles'. Funny thing is, I remember reading an interview with him a few years ago and I could have sworn he said the last book was more or less written, he just needed to tweak it a bit. Yet there is still no sign of it. I know there are rumours a TV series is in the works so maybe that has something to do with the delay? 🤔

message 1057: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I didn't know there was a new Matthew Corbett out. I could have sworn I looked up a short while ago to see if there was a new one. Must have been a long while ago

Just out - 10 days ago. I've got a couple of audiobooks to listen to and then its next. Problem is, I don't remember much about the previous book except that it ended on a cliffhanger.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments We finally got some rain early this morning. Much cooler and more like May weather. My white irises in the front yard grew at least six inches this weekend and have beautiful fat flower buds. I hope they bloom tomorrow or I will miss seeing them. They will be done by the time I get back from my sister's house on May 28th. I might not be on line much while I am gone. I'm leaving on Thursday morning. My sister is having hip replacement surgery on her left hip. No road trip for us this summer.

message 1060: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I hope your sister recovers quickly and that you get to see the white irises before you go.

message 1061: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments @Lisa - delay is related to mental health and him wanting the book to be the best it can be. He's a big perfectionist.

I'm trying to make a concerted effort not to get annoyed at authors that i'm awaiting books from. They're under enormous pressure from fans and they have lives outside of writing books.

I am looking forward to the tv series. Should be good.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm having a me-day. I accidentally worked 11 hours yesterday. On Wednesday I work a half day from home, but because of the long day yesterday and the fact that I am totally up to speed with everything, I figured I could treat myself to a day to myself. I only had to send some emails but that's it. It's also very nice weather so I'm going outside with a book!

Lucky you, Peggy - enjoy! P.S. how can you "accidentally" work 11 hours???

message 1064: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Last week a colleague asked if someone could take over her lessons on Tuesday morning, and I checked my schedule, saw it was empty in the first part of the morning, so told her I could do it. Then in the weekend I realized I was also supposed to work on Tuesday evening that week (which is not normally the case). I completely missed that before, as my google calendar showed the calendar from 9-5, but you have to scroll down to also see the evening because it doesn't all fit on the screen.

Oh I see. I hadn't heard that. I thought the delay was likely to do with the tv series. If the pressure from fans is affecting his mental health then he should definitely just kick back, relax as much as he can and release it only when he is good and ready.

Good news about GGRM. It's a lot of work to finish the book series. it's like he needs to compete with the tv series. I've read that GRRM has a lot of anxciety and I can believe this. The problem mostly of why fantasy series are sometimes unfinished, is they die when the series isn't completed, they change publishers during the series or they don't have the energy or inspiration to continue. That's why I rarely buy fantasy series, when they're not complete.

But he does churn his books out. He just has a lot of series to juggle. I thought warbreaker made a good stand alone anyway so dont feel like i've been left hanging.

@Sarah, [book:Warbreaker|1268479] was my intro to Sanderson and it would have made a great stand-alone except that he said it was the first of a series. I finished it in 2017, 8 years after it was written and went looking for book 2. No such luck! I thought I'd found a new series :-O

message 1080: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ah, I see. It was also my intro but when I read it, there was no mention of it being made into a series.

message 1081: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I have Warbreaker to listen to. The book's page says "Warbreaker 1" as the series title. Maybe by the time I get around to reading it, the next book will be published.

Nightblood has this on the book's page, "From December 2018 blog post:
Elantris and Warbreaker sequels aren’t to be expected until Stormlight Five and Wax and Wayne Four are done.

Status: Keep waiting. (Sorry again.)"

message 1082: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments And I think he pushed stormlight and wax and wayne back too, focusing first on a newer series that has one book published.

message 1083: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really don't mind about Sanderson. I basically have all of his series on the go so there is always something to read! I need to get to Stormlight still.

message 1084: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments This is pretty old, but it might give some ideas (scroll to the end where he gives updates on all his series - it's from the end of 2016 though).

I am following Stormlight but I didn't start that under false pretences hehe Someone suggested a buddy read and I couldn't resist! I had problems getting though book 3 though. I had to abandon it but I will pick it up again.

My dad had a saying when we'd suggest something he wasn't keen to try - "Let's not and say we did." I think I'll apply that to this situation. :)

As long as you can tell the difference between a cow and a tractor, you're good. Dad used to try to convince me that my eyes did not see what I was looking at.

"Janice, look at all those tractors in the field!"
"No, Dad. Those are cows."
"Janice, look at that lovely cow in the farmer's yard!"
"No, Dad. That's a tractor."

I'm not sure who he was trying to entertain while we were in the car on a trip - him, or me. Apparently, I grumbled a lot when I had to be in the boring car for hours on end.

I just voted in our Federal election. Shall be very interesting to see what happens tonight.

Highest number of people ever on the Australian electoral roll for this election too. 98% of all eligible voters are on the roll and we have compulsory voting. The naysayers of compulsory voting have always said you could never get participation rates so high, but here we are.
