I've noticed that the colour in vogue this year is this one:
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

You see a lot of book covers in that colour, and there were quite a few dresses on the red carpet that were similar or pink.

I didn't watch the Oscars but caught the news this morning. I was surprised that A Star is Born was pretty much shut out except for Best Original Song. I'm happy that Lady Gaga won that award.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Either my singing ability is better than I think or my wife thinks it's much better than it is. Whatever it is she's been practicing playing the Sound of Silence. She just casually drops it on me that I'm going to sing while she plays once she gets it down better. What,? That's how it's gonna be just tell me to sing a song like that. We haven't done it yet but we'll see. Also we've never done this before. She got a ukelele like 2 weeks ago

In my own defense I got drunk one night and left my wife a message singing 2 songs and when I heard then later I was like damn. Maybe I should take singing lessons because that was damn good. Just think if I had some actual training

Do it! If nothing else, singing lessons are usually pretty fun. I learnt how to make the best fire engine noises as a warm up in my years of voice training. Still can shut up a room with it.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I am with Rusalka. Do it! Singing is fun. Doing something fun with your wife is wonderful.

Sarah | 18550 comments Do it Travis! Form a band. Come tour the UK! I love singing but i'm aware that i'm not great. It's a lot of fun though.

Now that i've got to see/hear!

Sarah | 18550 comments I have just syarted looking at voice exercises as i'm struggling a little with my voice at work having to talk all day. Hopefully it will help.

message 558: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Tour the UK 😂

Talking kills my voice too. I could probably talk to myself all day but having a conversation with an actual person I go hoarse. I think it's something with projecting my voice while talking. We talk loudly around here since there's usually some noise to talk over

Kristie | 19138 comments Am I the only one that thought you don't need to take singing lessons, just have a couple drinks first. lol

message 560: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I wish I could sing, I would love to be really good at it. But as a child I was told that I sound like a crow (if that makes sense in English) and ever since I only sort of whisper-sing when I'm on my own. When I have to sing in a group of people (like happy birthday or something) I sing very softly or I just move my lips without making any sound.

Thanks Kristie. My drunk antics is strong. Confidence in a can

message 562: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19138 comments That's so sad, Peggy! Singing makes you feel good. Even if you're terrible at it, everyone should be able to sing. You should just belt it out when you're by yourself. There's no one to care.

Doing pretty well today. I'm heading off to a movie with a friend in a little while, then joining a couple others for happy hour. It's a good day.

I have to say though that I have one friend that wanted to do a happy hour, so my group planned one, then she said she couldn't make it that day, so I asked for her schedule and planned another happy hour around her schedule. That happy hour is tonight and she just cancelled so we're going without her again. She's the one that wanted to do this to begin with. Ugh. It will be a fun time anyway.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I have a plaque that reads, "Sing like there's nobody listening." It doesn't matter what you sound like. Let your song bird out.

People don't stop to think what their criticism can do to a child. I'm so sorry that happened to you, Peggy.

Welcome Peter!

message 572: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Welcome Peter!

Enjoy the movie and happy hour Kristie!

It's kind of strange when you think about it. I'm sure I had plenty more criticism when growing up, but for some reason that specific comment made a huge impact and still has consequences 25 years later, while other things I don't care about or have completely forgotten about.

Yes that's a shame Peggy. Agree with Kristie, if you're alone just belt it out. I bet you're better than you think/they said.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Perks of the new job: I have the same holidays as the students, which means I have a week off next week! 10 days if you include tomorrow and the weekends. I have a few small things planned until Wednesday, then on Thursday I'm going to spend the day with my sister and nephew, and from Friday to Sunday I'm going away for the weekend to Antwerp (Belgium) with Rob.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments It's so windy here today! Our bird house, a chair, and a heavy plant have all toppled over. And I just saw the bbq (which is big and heavy) move!

The wind should become a bit less this afternoon, which is good. There are a lot of carnival parades all over the region, and they could get cancelled when there's too much wind. People have been building their wagons since November, so that would be a real shame.

I'm thinking today is a good day to sort out my paper book collection. I don't have enough shelf space anymore, so I need to fix this. I only keep books I really like, but I also have a lot of study related books and cook books that I don't use that much (or at all), so I'll pack some up to go to goodwill. I also have to clean the house a bit, and find a few more places to stay in for our trip to Iceland in the summer.

message 583: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments It is windy here too. We are under a warning for severe winds indeed. It is also raining, that is very annoying when you add it to the wind. :/

message 584: by Peggy (last edited Mar 04, 2019 03:42AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We have showers too. The wind has died down a bit now fortunately.

I created about a shelf of space today. Weird, it looks like I got rid of many more books than the space I was left with.

Just read Keith Flint was found dead at his home today. That's sad :( He was only 49. I was never a fan of The Prodigy or anything, but I did like to listen to them every now and then.

message 585: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Grats on the book clearing, Peggy! And glad the wind has died down some what. Hope you and Sandra look after yourselves, winds are unpredictable.

Oh that's sad. I don't mind a bit of Prodigy.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Apparently he committed suicide :(

I'm in an organizing mood! After the book shelves, I also tackled our 'extra room' which we have in the house but don't need so basically it serves as storage. Was a bit of a mess, looks much better now. And then I did the food cabinets in the kitchen, also look much better now! Let's think, what else can I do? I hate cleaning but I do like making things look organized and throwing out what we don't need (every now and then, that is). And I'm on a roll now! Do I dare to start on Rob's closet?

message 587: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I am gutted about Keith! I have always loved the Prodigy and have had some very good times whilst listening to their music. When I heard about it this morning, details hadn't been released but seems it has now. Seeing it was suicide has made me even more sad. I am currently typing this post with Prodigy playing in the background. :-(

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments And Luke Perry has passed away too, after a massive stroke last week. I had a crush on him when he played in Beverly Hills 90210.

What a sad day :(

message 592: by Cherie (last edited Mar 04, 2019 02:29PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments We had some really nice sun shine this weekend. Unfortunately, it was accompanied by 10 to 21 mph east winds (feels like 19F). It looked so pretty outside, but it was too cold to go outside and do anything. Just walking out to get into the car was enough for me. I went out to go the library on Saturday and get a few groceries, but Sunday - I stayed inside and did laundry.

I heard about Luke Perry from a co-worker.

message 595: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Luke Perry was 52 and died of a massive stroke. It's unusual for someone that age to have a stroke.

Annerlee | 2871 comments Well.. I'm currently at work and invigilating an internal assessment. Most of the other lecturers are on strike - I can hear cars passing outside beeping their horns in support - I'm in the other union, so I'm working and standing in for a colleague. Not sure how much solidarity I'm showing, but he asked me to, so I suppose it's ok.

Problem is... I need the loo! And there's no-one I can contact easily to stand in for me. That was a bad oversight. I'm jiggling my legs surreptitiously and don't dare walk around the students. Still 10 minutes to go and I am DYING!

I thought I'd read some GR posts to take my mind off things... but you're all writing about girl pee! NOT HELPFUL!

message 597: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Only 10 minutes! You can do it!

I always wonder about that when I see these people supervising 3-hour exams on their own. How do you do that if you need to go to the bathroom? What if you have to go after an hour already? There must be someone to contact who can take over for a couple of minutes, right?

message 598: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Oh, Annerlee. How did it go??

message 599: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That was exactly what I thought of when I read about Luke Perry, that women from my era growing up were either crushing on one of New Kids On the Block or 90210, or both

message 600: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Jonathan Brandis from Seaquest for me. Gotta love a boy with a dolphin when you're 11.
