Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I packing right now because in a few hours I will leave Florida ( which is in the 70’s today) to visit my daughter in Minneapolis ( where it will be -17.) I am regretting my decision to buy her a concert ticket ( to Eric Church) for her birthday and agreeing to go with her. Extreme weather is really not my thing.

You'll enjoy the time with your daughter and the concert, and you won't even notice the temperature. :)

Oh, I don't have those issues when I change to desktop site. It's fully functional for me then.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I've been having some more health related problems these past few weeks. I was getting wobbly sensations in my legs, to the extent where I was often stumbling and needed to be held up, frequent headaches and a lot of back pain. I thought it was all Fibromyalgia related, but my doctor suspected something other than Fibro was causing it. I had blood tests done on Tuesday and got told today my Vitamin D levels were very low. The doctor prescribed me some really strong tablets that I have to take twice a week for 7 weeks to get my levels back up and then I can start taking regular vitamin D tablets daily from there on in. I have had lots of blood tests over the past few years and this is the first time they have ever shown a deficiency. Funny how these things just change for no apparent reason.

message 457: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I had a vit d deficiency a few years back. It does impact muscles a lot and can cause pain. It came up when i had my chronic back problem. I had injections which i found easier than tablets. I had them a couple years running and then they couldn't get hold of the injection on prescription anymore for some reason so i had to swap to the tablets. I've not had them for a couple years. I was recently tested and my levels are fine but i'm outside more since living on the boat so i get my vitamin d intake more easily now.

I can't add names titles of edit my posts, reply or delete. Why do they system that, though it has issues, people are used to, and instead of improving it, TOTALLY SCREW IT UP???

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments It’s sunny and -9 (F) here in Minneapolis. But the nice thing is they take care of the roads so we aren’t housebound. My daughter is taking me to her library today. I’m making her get a library card so I can have access to the online books.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments No posts here for 5 days? What have you all been up to?

I'll just come talk about the weather (again). Friday to Sunday is going to be amazing! It will be 16-17 C and sunny! In February! That's like Spring! Still below 0 during the night so it will be halfway through the afternoon before it really gets that warm, but I think I can sit outside for a bit in the sun with a book. Or go into town and have a beer outside at a cafe.

The only thing is that this always gets my hopes up for Spring, but it could be back to snow and freezing a week later... it's definitely not going to stay so nice until it's actually spring.

message 467: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments I got sick in Minneapolis ( just a cold but it knocked me for a loop.) I feel for you all facing all that extreme weather, both hot and cold. Just got back from the library with my Toppler books. My husband is keeping them in his office so I’m not tempted to plow through them. Lol. I have no willpower.

We have got nice weather here in the UK too. It's positively spring like. It sounds like it will stay like that for at least another week or so :)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments We don't usually do Valentine's day but this year my wife requested a specific flower and told me where to go get it. While down there I run across some cacti. I was like hmm. So I gave her a flower and a cactus and explained today is a fake holiday and everyday isny roses and rainbows. As humans we have good days and bad days so this gift is more accurate to real life the beautiful flower represents the good days and the cactus the prickly days.

And it was a little risky but went over well actually. Every so often I have a burst of philosophical insight

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Here, it is shoveling time. We got 40cm of the stuff yesterday and we are expecting another 15cm this weekend. Yesterday was a major storm by Quebec standard. Even the university was close and that has not happened since 2008 I think. It takes a lot to shut us down.

I am trying not to focus on the fact that "snow storm season" is usually in March. I have no clue where we will put this snow. My house today:

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Must be all my snow has been blown North to Esther. Good place for it lol. We've had a few storms this winter but then a few days later it warms up melts it all then we start kver. Been a very odd winter for us. Mild rain cold snow repeat

message 484: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Yuck! 40 cms is almost 16 inches of snow. We got hit with a snow storm like that a few weeks ago. We're expecting more of the white stuff starting tonight and ending on Sunday. That's the downside of it warming up. You just know it's going to snow.

message 485: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Some cactus have beautiful blooms, and roses have nasty thorns. I really like the symbolism you gave to it Travis. You're a sentimental guy at heart. :)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Cherie wrote: "Oh, my goodness, Esther! Is all of that from the street crew clearing the road? Do you have to move some of that to get in your driveway? How do you get in or out of your house?"

Some off it is street cleaning but not that much. I have over 2 meters in my back yard. I have a contractor that takes care of my drive way. The rest I shovel. Still do actually and it started snowing again. Another 15cm they say...

The point of this pic was to demonstrate what is a lot of snow for me. It just reached that point. Everything is relative. Warm, cold, little, lot. Depending on what you are used to.

Lots of snow for me start here. Last week is was just snow.

i do not know how it is in your side of the country Janice, but here, the worst storm are usually in early March. We are all thinking about this as we are all definitely starting to wonder where to shovel the damn stuff.

message 488: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Anyone used Blinkist before? It condenses the main learning points in a book in to a short document or audio. A friend just recommended it to me and I've subscribed. It's for non-fiction books. There are so many books I want to read and not enough time. Quite often there is a lot of fluff in a book and you just ant to know what the main points are from it. It also might be a great way to help judge which books are worth spending the money on to read the whole thing. I love that there is an audio version as I can do this whilst commuting and doing chores now. I'm just wondering how to record these reads on GR. Of course I can have a shelf called Blinkist which will help but do I mark it as read or not?! Hmm.

This is why we moved further south. We still get snow, but it melts and we no longer have to worry about where we are going to put it all. That happened far too often up north.

I have the app, but haven't used it yet. I liked the idea of condensing the material, since often nonfiction books can be quite repetitive. I didn't realize they had audio too. Maybe you can find an abridged copy to mark as read?

message 491: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I've created an exclusive shelf called blinkist. That way i can mark it as read in blinkist but if i go on to read it fully i can then mark it as actually read.

Yes it's good there is an audio option. Each one is rougly 15-25 minutes long. I've just listened to one and know i'd like to read the whole book now as it was interedting.

We seem to be getting our worst weather in February this year. Usually, we get more snow in Dec/Jan, and the extreme cold was always typically January's treat. We generally get a bad storm in March. You can count on it hitting around March 17th.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Oh that sucks, Sandra. Make the boys pee on the garden, it keeps foxes away (unfortunately girl pee attracts them). Hope it's sorted quickly.

Oh my god. That is an awful amount of snow. I don't think I have seen that amount of snow. Oh no, sorry, except from Travis.

Travis, the cactus is awesome and real. We don't really do valentines here unless you are young and trying to get laid. So I appreciate it a lot.

message 500: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments In fact, on the Valentines thing. I have a friend who has 3 primary (elementary) school aged kids. They have all started school in California, but moved back to Australia this January.

Her (my friend's) facebook status on the 13th was that she could not appreciate more not making 90 valentines for her kids classes, and that they had no idea it was valentines day. It's just not a thing at all. And the fact you have to make valentine's for 30 random 5 yr olds blows my Australian mind. What?????!!!?? I thought writing 20c Christmas cards was bad. Jeez...
