Back in my 20's I read everything I could on the subject of astral projection (Fox (my first), Muldoon, Carrington, Monroe, Yram), and tried many techniques, I never did achieve projection as described, but I did develop the ability to lucid dream after about 9 months, since then I have had 1000's of them, fairly regularly, one just a few days ago.
I have come to believe that people have had lucid dreams and called them astral projections, as many of their descriptions exactly mirror my own, and though the lucid dream surroundings can in some cases be very similar to actual earthly locales, they never are exactly the same, or do not remain the same for long.
I hope I am wrong on this, but not I nor anyone I've met, has ever had the pure experience, though I have met a number of other lucid dreamers.
Perhaps someday I might get lucky.
