I read the book in last 5 years. its set in the present, so no earlier than 2000. I dont remember where i read it. ive gone through my read list but its not there. I remember during the mating ritual she is being forced to go through she is hoping for freedom, she doesnt want a mate. she wants to go to college take control of her own life. her mate walks out of woods, looks crazy, everyone thinks hes crazy. turns out hes her mate. he ends up fixing her truck right away while she ignores the mating pull. then he follows her to i think a California college. he refuses to talk to her until she accepts their mate bond. he slowly breaks her down. he shifts into a dog and sleeps in her bed. he gets a job as a mechanic. i remember some dark figure after her. dont remember ending. dont think there were any sequals. it was stand alone.
