Barbara K The Bird Boys sounds good. Also What Rose Forgot: A Novel, a stand-alone (i. e. not Anna Pigeon).

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Rita and Barbara: Great suggestions from both of you! Thanks!
Let’s see if there are any seconds for any of these; I can second the David Lagercrantz book : I am going to be reading The Girl Who Lived Twice, hoping to get my turn soon. I love Nevada Barr’s books so What Rose Forgot: A Novel has already been on my radar.
I read The Bird Boys and agree it is s terrific book and a possibility. I hadn’t heard of Raven Black before this mention. (It does sound good!)

OMalleycat | 1448 comments Too many of these look good to me!

I don’t read Grisham or The Girl Who. . . books but I know they have a long history here so I’d happily sit out the group reads and maybe catch up on some other reading. (“Catch up” is a highly relative term.)

But I like the looks of Sarah Jane, Raven Black, The Bird Boys, and What Rose Forgot: A Novel and would gladly read any of them.

Barbara K Since I have a copy of a Raven Black sitting around waiting to be read, I’d be happy with that. :-)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Barbara, Rita and Jan O'Malleycat: Great!! With the four of us interested in Raven Black, I suggest we add it for our November group read!
Three of us are interested in What Rose Forgot: A Novel so perhaps add it for December.
I am out of digital holds so it may be a few weeks before I get a copy of Raven Black.
Barbara if you can let me know the chapter count from your copy I can set up comment threads.

Barbara K Of course! It may take me a few days since it's in one of the as-yet-unpacked boxes of books, but I'm happy to do it.

message 109: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Thanks Barbara - no rush, we have until November 1!
I've requested the audio, I expect it will be a few weeks for my turn at Raven Black.

Russ | 347 comments Sounds like a full list!

I'm thinking of reading Blood Orange later on--maybe January--if anybody else is interested.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Russ: Blood Orange does look good! Anybody else interested in discussing it in early 2020?

OMalleycat | 1448 comments I’m interested in Blood Orange.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Thanks for the second motion, Jan! I'll add it!

Romy | 1 comments Hi everyone. This is my first post on goodreads. How can I learn how this reading group works?

message 115: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Excellent question Romy! I copied this general answer about how this group handles Group Reads from previous post #99 on this thread. Please let us know if you have further questions!
When there is a good book that just screams for an opportunity to talk about the book, it's impact, and your thoughts with others - it is a great way to do it.

The books we have selected will show up on our group home page and the group bookshelf with a link to the active thread folder in the home page body of information for each group. Or search for a book by title on this group's home page search field. Then -
You may grab a copy of the book when you can, read at your own pace and we’ll comment with spoilers exposed on the specific chapter grouped topics as we go.
The first person to post is asked to do a brief summary of that set of chapters to guide the discussion and corral any spoilers for future segments into the right thread.
As others read we add comments and it can be a lot of fun to explore a book we read a bit more deeply as others chime in their thoughts.
Timing is fluid. There may be weeks between comments when different readers join in. (Helped by the summaries we are able to recall and keep discussions going)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Rita:
Good luck with getting Overdrive to purchase Blood Orange Sometimes my library buys immediately and sometimes they don't when I ask. And now sometimes audible.com has exclusive rights to the audiobooks. That works for me since I am an audible member but sometimes I don't want to use a credit that way. I checked on this book and it is available on Overdrive so hope yours will add it too!

CYIReadBooks (Claire) Blood Orange
is on my current reading list. Managed to get the audio book via an Audible free trial membership. Overdrive had a super long wait list.

message 118: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Claire: I've enjoyed my audible membership for years, especially for longer audiobooks, I like being able to take my time without a due date. I also like to take my time with non-fiction through audible. Enjoy!

Susan (on hiatus) | 30 comments I just finished The Secrets We Kept and loved it!

Blood Orange was also good.

I've missed the last couple of months, so what ever you choose, I'll read and join in.

Geri | 94 comments Are there any book nominations for February? I am looking forward to Long Bright River and would enjoy reading this with the group. Anyone else interested in reading this?

message 122: by Ann (new)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16981 comments Geri: We don't have a February group read book yet! Long Bright River looks like a good one. I am happy with adding it, it is already on my virtual tbr list.
I was listing a few books for consideration in a notebook, I guess its time to start a thread to discuss new books for group read options with 2020 speeding towards us!

Geri | 94 comments Great, Ann! The book looks timely and I have read another book by Liz Moore and really liked it.
