Group Read Books - 2019
If you have suggestions for 2019 discussion books please feel free to post them here for consideration. Unless we started a series as a group read from book one (and several do qualify as such) we generally seek out stand-alone books.

I just read the Amazon preview (first 10 pages) of The Lost Man and enjoyed it. Though it's not an Aaron Falk book, it's immediately reminiscent of Harper's previous mysteries, which have been really good group reads. Looking forward to the release & group discussion!

I just saw a new release (stand-alone) is coming soon from Greg Iles Cemetery Road. We've read his books before - any interest in adding this one to our 2019 group reads bookshelf for March or April? US Release March 5 2019
Current list:
Jan-2019 The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
Feb-2019 The Lost Man
Mar-2019 Before She Knew Him

I saw that too, Ann, and was going to suggest it. Love Greg Iles!

I'm not sure, Ann. I haven't read his other books, so a stand-alone sounds good. But the book blurb didn't really grab me, and at 600-pages I'm a bit wary... On the other hand, maybe I should read it because I won't be reading the Swanson book (DNF'd his last one).
I'll read the Cemetery Road Kindle sample when it comes out to make a final decision.
Russ: I completely understand; an unknown book of 600 pages is a significant commitment. I'm looking forward to the sample too. :)
I haven’t read Iles. I’ll wait to read what others say about the book. The book would be a commitment!I do want to recommend The Hiding Place for a possible group read. This is by the author of The Chalk Man. I’m excited about a few mystery thrillers coming out in the next few months. And this is one.
I do plan on reading The Lost Man. It’s interesting that it’s a stand alone.
Geri: I am planning on reading C.J. Tudor's The Hiding Place. I liked The Chalk Man too. Perhaps April for The Hiding Place?

Ann wrote: "Perhaps April for The Hiding Place? "April would be great! So many books to read before then. :)
Geri: So true! I'm 23rd on the hold list for 4 copies so hope the extra time until April will get me closer to my turn. I'm excited to have it up for discussion!Geri wrote: "Ann wrote: "Perhaps April for The Hiding Place? "

Well I'm first in line for the audio version of The Hiding Place so I may be too soon! This isn't a series, correct?
Carol: to the best of my knowledge CJ Tudor’s The Hiding Place is her/his second novel and not a series. Yippee. I better see if my library has it on order.
Well I am number 18 in line on four copies of The Hiding Place for digital audio so it will be a while for me. I am about 60% into IQ so hope to start The Lost Man on Thursday or so.
The Hiding Place is a stand-alone, Carol. C.J. Tudor is female, Ann. I do find it interesting that the MCs for both her books are male.
Good to know Geri! Thanks; While it doesn't matter to me if an author is female or male, I like knowing as i consider their perspective on their writing.Geri wrote: "The Hiding Place is a stand-alone, Carol. C.J. Ann, I got a copy of The Hiding Place from the library. Very early like Carol. If you can create the discussion threads, I volunteer to write the summaries. There is a prologue, 39 chapters and an epilogue.
Will do Geri! Thanks!!Geri wrote: "Ann, I got a copy of The Hiding Place from the library. Very early like Carol. If you can create the discussion threads, I volunteer to write the summaries. There is a prologue, 39 ..."
I see that Candice Fox has a sequel to Crimson Lake called Redemption Point. It's being released on March 19. Shall we make that a Group Read for where we have an opening?
Carol: wow! Absolutely! We will need to add it for sure. I'll push it out a bit... Carol/Bonadie wrote: "I see that Candice Fox has a sequel to Crimson Lake called Redemption Point. It's being released on March 19. Shall we make that a Group Read for where we have an op..."

Great! Just reserved it at the library and I'm first in line when it comes in. Great!
Ann - Once again I got a copy of our group read early. Redemption Point I can’t Wait to read this so I started today and I am jotting down a summary of the book as I listen. So far, so good! I’ll post the summaries later.
Geri: I'm jealous! Mostly kidding -- so many good books on my piles. I'll start some threads for the posts! The Amazon"look inside the book" doesn't give the chapters, any tips for breaking it out?
Thanks!

The book has 57 chapters and an epilogue. Chapters aren’t very long so they can probably be split fairly evenly into 4 or 5 parts.
Thanks Geri! I'll get the threads up now for Redemption Point! Geri wrote: "The book has 57 chapters and an epilogue. Chapters aren’t very long so they can probably be split fairly evenly into 4 or 5 parts. ."

I'm up for it as well. Based on the Kindle sample, I'm a tad worried that it won't quite measure up to the first book. But I like Ted, and it's fun to see Amanda back in the mix.
We are well covered with "first half" books for 2019 so no giant rush, but if anyone has suggestions for group read books for late May, June / July or later we can consider them now. Several of our spring books are starting or enjoying lively discussions now.

Mar-2019 Before She Knew Him

Apr-2019 Redemption Point
Suggestions:Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep release date 06-May-2019
The stunning story of an Alabama serial killer and the true-crime book that Harper Lee worked on obsessively in the years after To Kill a Mockingbird.
Someone Knows by Lisa Scottoline release date 09-Apr-2019
a pulse-pounding domestic thriller about a group of friends who have been bound for twenty years by a single secret—and will now be undone by it. Someone Knows is an emotional exploration of friendship and family, as well as a psychological exploration of guilt and memory.
Thanks, Ann, I'll keep my eyes open for suggestions. Most of the books on my TBR are next in favorite series or beginning of series I want to start, like the John Rain series by Barry Eisler (favorite of our late founder Cheryl) A Clean Kill in Tokyo and the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva (The Kill Artist)

Could be an interesting spin on I Know What You Did Last Summer, Ann.
Pondering Crown Jewel, second book in the Riske series we started last year.
Ann wrote: "Suggestions:Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep release date 06-May-2019"
Well, you know I’m in for anything involving Harper Lee!
I looked at some mystery thrillers that I am excited about. I'll Never Tell looks interesting and releases 6-1.
The Turn of the Key is the latest by Ruth Ware. And a sort of reimagining of The Turn of the Screw. Release date 8-6.

I'd definitely go for this, based on what I've read about it.
Geri wrote: "I'll Never Tell looks interesting and releases 6-1.."I like the looks of I’ll Never Tell too.
Russ: Thanks for calling out Crown Jewel, book two by Christopher Reich! We do like to read the following books in a series! Maybe June? Russ wrote: "Pondering Crown Jewel, second book in the Riske series we started last year."
Geri: Thanks for suggesting I'll Never Tell and thanks, Jan O'Cat for "seconding" the nomination - along with Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee. I knew we would probably tease your cat radar with the Harper Lee reference! ;) I've add both plus Crown Jewel. We can play with the order of the schedule to best fit our tbr piles for May through July.

Thanks for adding, Ann!
I added three to our Group Read line-up with a suggested order to group read! Thanks for the nominations! May - Harper Lee! Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee
June - book two in the Riske series we started Crown Jewel
July - (or sooner 6/1 release in the US) a thriller that looks very good I'll Never Tell
Thanks, Ann, for the group read update! The Harper Lee book isn’t my usual type of book. But it looks interesting. I am considering reading it.
A friend of Sherry's and mine suggested The Silent Patient. I've reserved the audio from the library.

Our cadence is generally one book a month, overlapping to extend the reading period out approximately 60 days and starting on the US release date for new books.
Our style is to start chapter segment threads to guide spoiler type discussions and for 2019 will reinstate the practice of having a Final Comments spoiler thread for those who prefer to skip straight to their summary of a group read book.
Three books to start the new year are already assigned! Please see the Bookshelf link on the Group Home page to find the list and link to discussions of current or past group read books.
