Perhaps I expected too much with this being a Christy Award book, but I rounded this up to 3 stars. Completely anachronistic writing in the translated excerpts that were supposed to be several hundred years old--made it very unbelievable. I don't expect it to be literally written as if it were from then, but NOT in the way it was! Also, I was very disappointed in the (view spoiler)[ghost/spirit crap with the dead friend--so inane!
