Candice | 29 comments Hi! I've been trying to find a YA/NA paranormal romance book or series that's not a reverse harem. It seems like all the new paranormal romance books are reverse harem and I just don't care for them:( I like the heroine who's main love interest is the hero, just my personal preference. If the book or series is in first person, that would be a bonus! Thanks!

Ebookworm2016 | 182 comments Have you read any, already, that you like? I read a lot of paranormal romance that are not reverse harem (not as much in the YA/NA genre, but some) but it would help to know if you have already ready the commonly popular authors.

Candice | 29 comments I really liked the Darkest Drae series by Kelly St. Clare (and her Tainted Accords series) and Raye Wagner, The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill, Laura Thalassa's books, Daizlei Academy series by Kel Carpenter, Sky Brooks series by Mckenzie Hunter, J.L. Weil books, The Marked series by Bianca Scardoni, and The Storm Siren series by Mary Weber, The Hidden Conduit series by J.N. Colon, and Divinicus Nex Chronicles by A & E Kirk.

Ebookworm2016 | 182 comments I don’t know many of the authors you listed, except I have read the Night Huntress series. Since it’s not YA, I’ll throw Ilona Andrews out there. They (husband and wife author team) have multiple series and I like them all.

Kate Daniels (magic, shifters, vampires in alternative Atlanta), The Edge (magic, shifters) Hidden Legacy (magic) Innkeeper (magic, shifters, vampires and more) None are harem. The Edge is the most romance oriented (IMO)—-one couple per book style. The others play out the romance over multiple books, but the couples are committed-style, not bouncing from one partner to another.

YA:
“Hunted” by Megan Spooner—re-telling of Beauty and the Beast
“These Broken Stars” by Megan Spooner and Amy Kaufman: Sci-fi space travel

Paranormal romance is pretty broad. Are there certain kinds of subject matter you like? Vampires, shifters, magic? What about steampunk and sci-fi?

Candice | 29 comments Thank you!! I'll definitely check those out. I like all subjects; vampires, shifters, magic, steampunk, and sci-fi! I'm not picky on specific paranormal themes as long as its a good book with an interesting plot:)

You might also check out Patricia Briggs 2 interconnecting series, Mercy Thompson and Alpha and Omega. They are more UF than PNR. But, again, the main female has only one love interest.

For Steampunk, you might check out The Iron Duke Although this isn't set in the typical Victorian time period, rather it's set in what in our world was the Regency period. However this world is totally different from ours. In this world Genghis Khan did NOT stop his sweep across the known world, rather he continued and conquered all of Europe. He did it by using what is essentially a steampunk version of nanobots. This series does feature different couples for each book (and several short stories.) Definitely NOT YA, but could be considered NA I guess.

Ebookworm2016 | 182 comments These aren't new adult, exactly. The heroines tend to be young, since they are mostly historical. I second the Iron Duke. That's the main one I was thinking of when I asked about steampunk.

Kristin Callihan-"Firelight". Historical urban fantasy.

Amanda Bouchet- "Promise of Fire". This starts the Kingmaker Chronicles. Magic.

Lydia Dare-"Tall, Dark & Wolfish". There are several other books too. This is historical werewolf.

Bec McMaster- "Kiss of Steel". This is steampunk. Several other books in the series.

I have a couple more in mind, but I need to remember the titles/series/author.

I don't usually search specifically for young adult when I read paranormal, I tend to ignore genres and pounce on any summary that sounds interesting, but I've certainly ended up reading plenty that ride the border of adult/ya.

I think you might like the following pnr/fantasy series. They're not technically young adult/na, but there are very few sexual references, and any romance is very slow burn over the course of all 3 of these series and there are NO reverse harem, menage, or love triangle themes.

Written in Red (The Others, #1) by Anne Bishop Written in Red by Anne Bishop

Deadly Remains (A Clairvoyant's Complicated Life, #1) by Katherine Bayless Deadly Remains by Katherine Bayless

Darkness Haunts (The Sensor, #1) by Susan Illene Darkness Haunts by Susan Illene

Start with "The Others" series by Anne Bishop. It's a huge fan favorite in most paranormal groups I've browsed through! I love this series because of the characters and how each different paranormal species in the courtyard is fleshed out with so many tiny species quirks and differing perspectives of the exact same things. I love how they each have so much trouble trying to make sense of Meg (our heroine, a human blood prophet) and the behaviors of her "human pack" through the eyes of a shifter pack or the norms of a vampire, etc. There's so much adorable confusion!

What makes this series unique is the fact that humans are the minority in this world, are a nuisance to "The Others" who view us as good candidates for extermination, yet we just keep stupidly screwing things up. Every. Damn. Time. It's so much fun to read!
