Reading for the tag vs. Challenges/Games/Contests

The action & adventure tag seems to be underused as a book genre tag (compared to movies). Many books with lots of action, adventure, journeys, escapes/rescues, war battles, gunfights, violence, danger, man vs nature adventures, etc. are not tagged as action and/or adventure, but they could/should be. Many are tagged as thrillers, which (according to one literary site) is a subset of the action/adventure genre.
I saw that many people have mentioned that they can't count a book as action/adventure because it hasn't been tagged that way by others yet. I appreciate that we can use our judgment in making these decisions.
I noticed that a couple of the Iraq books involve kidnapping, escapes, rescue, rape, violence, guns, murders, and other examples of action. Escape/rescue is a common example of the adventure genre. So this month, those books could count for both the culture challenge and the monthly tag.

HOWEVER ... The rules for the TBR 36 challenge clearly state that the book in question must have the exact tag in order to get additional points. So even if you think it would fit, if it wasn't tagged exactly "action-adventure" before you started reading it, then you can't count it for the extra points in the TBR 36 challenge.
Hope that made sense.
And, Anita - or other moderator - please correct me if I interpreted this incorrectly.

Thanks for adding that.
When reading for the monthly tag, we basically accept that if you believe the book fits, it fits. We do not double check to see if the book fits the tag. If you put your review in the section for books that fit the tag, we trust that you've vetted it and that it does in fact fit our theme for that month.
However, with any type of game or challenge or contest that awards any type of prize (participation points, gift certificates, or something else), we do require that you follow the rules of the challenge and also that if a book is required to be tagged a certain way, that it in fact is. That doesn't mean you can't just play along for fun, but if you don't follow the guidelines than you will not be eligible for the prizes.
