I read a book at my granny's about 5 years ago that I cannot remember the title or the author.

It is a historical romance novel set in the US around 1820-1920

Here's what I remember:

A man named Jesse receives a letter saying his sister has passed away and he has to care for his niece and nephew. The nephew is around 4 and I think the niece was around 6 or 7. There is a school teacher that I think was named Sarah that is the love interest of Jesse. What I remember about Sarah is that she was married previously to a friend of her father and when they were consummating the marriage, her husband died of I believe some heart thing. Sarah takes an interest in Jesse's niece and nephew and offers to show Jesse how to care for the children like how to cook and bake and how to braid his niece's hair. In return, he helps her fix up her house. Jesse is in danger of the children being taken away from him by I think it was some lady at church.

My granny unfortunately threw a lot of her books away and I haven't been able to find this book.
