Zeldur | 3 comments I borrowed and read this book around 2006 or 2007. I can’t remember the author but vaguely remember that is was a man, I also believe they were a Canadian author but I could be misremembering. I don’t recall the title or any of the character’s names. I believe that the narrator is a woman and she tells the story of how her and her husband moved out to the prairies. I remember that she talks about him having to clear part of the forest to build their house and that it takes a whole year or more. I believe they have four children and the book also follows them growing up as I recall a scene where one of the kids goes to a barn party. I remember one of the sons going to war and possibly the father as well. I also vaguely remember a teenage pregnancy as well as someone almost dying during childbirth. I hope someone else remembers this book because I think about it all the time and would like to reread it. Thank you for anyone who responds.

Colleen Ray | 57 comments Was this a YA or adult novel? Was it set in the early years of the united states, or is it in a more modern setting?

I believe it was a YA novel set just before and during WWl or WWll. I’m pretty sure it was set in Canada as well. Thanks for the link I’ll check through and see if anything rings a bell.

Just based off of what I’ve read on the wikis I don’t think it was any of these books. Thank you though

Colleen Ray | 57 comments This sounds similar to what you describe. It's the first of a Arriving: 1909-1919
