Good Morning, your question is very provocative. In reality there is some sort of "underground" movement similar to the theme of this book. Can it happen today? Who knows for sure. Could it happen today? Probably.
Yes, I think it is happening today in some way shape or form. Lots of human trafficking, plenty of wealthy people who own property all over the world, people go missing all of the time, secret groups, charimstic leaders...
