P. C. | 1 comments I am looking for a book - I don't remember title or author.

The story is about two (or more) young adolescents and is set in/around London in the 1960s. The story opens with one friend stealing a lottery ticket from another. The author, I think, is a contemporary of Martin Amis.

There is a second book also. It is about a lonely (catholic?) spinster. She grew up in an orphanage and was never adopted. She remembers, with unforgiving hatred, the (sister?) in-charge who discouraged a couple who were about to adopt her by telling them she is a bed-wetter. I thought it might be "The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearn" or something by William Trevor but I have had no luck. Hope someone can help.

``Laurie (laurielynette) The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne by Brian Moore - is this the book you were thinking of?

For some reason, by leaving off the 'e' in Hearne, Goodreads didn't initially show this book as one existing in its data base.

P., please provide plot details (no spoilers) and the genre of the book you’re looking for in the Topic header, not something vague like "Help! can't remember this book". Someone is more likely to recognize your book.

If you're looking for two separate books, please separate this into two requests. The only exception to this is if the books are part of a series by the same author.
