I just ordered this one from the library as I am going to try to complete as many of the monthly reads as I can
This book have been on my tbr over a year I'm so happy of this chance to pick it up and read it with u ^^
I loved this book! I really like dystopian stories, but this is one of the rare ones that feels quite plausible. Sadly though, I didn’t really get most of the ‘80s references, because I grew up in the ‘90s. However, don’t let that stop you from picking up this book, as it doesn’t make the book less good if you miss the references. I hope everyone here enjoys Ready Player One as much as I did!
I kept asking myself if I'd actually written this book and forgotten about it (I wish LOL) - it is a book I wish I had written. Of course I've written 0 books so...but absolutely loved it.
I loved this book so much that I've read it twice so far and I very seldom do that with any book.My first review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I totally loved the book. I agree with Willemijn that I didn't really understand most of the '80s references, but I loved the book nevertheless. I'm really glad I read it! :)
This is a favorite of mine. I was born in the 70s so this was like a love story to most of my youth. While the musical song and lyric references sometimes went by me, I at least knew the group names. Video games, books, and movies were very recognizable.
I first read it as an ebook, and later as an audiobook. Will Wheaton voices the novel and it’s a good fit. Highly recommend highly enjoyable!
I didn't plan on reading this, but then I joined the BARC Anorak's Almanac challenge and wanted to read it to understand the challenge... boy was I glad!I love it. I read it in one sitting. Was up way past my bed time :-D (Perks of being an adult ;-))
I was born 1969 and even though it was in Finland and that's why a lot of references were unfamiliar to me (for example that Saturday morning cartoons. Never happened. Though my grandfather had cable and when I visited him in the 90s I used to watch Transformers :-D (Yes, I know, 20-something watching Transformers... and not for nostalgic reasons) - I did recognize myself in the "old people" :-D
I needed to check that all the "good guys" really were good guys, and I am so happy they were that. Gave me that nice, warm, fuzzy 80s feeling :-D 80s was a good era. (To me, at least.)
There was only one thing I found irritating, though. Seppuku is not the Japanese word for suicide.
Really enjoyed this book! I have been meaning to read it for a while. I have done a bit of online gaming, so I was familiar with the terminology, which I think helped me enjoy it more. Loved the 80s nostalgia. My Review
I've only just joined this group, and it's appropriate that I read this book last year for another group's challenge. I might not have tried it otherwise, but I loved it! Yay for challenges! Link to my review
