Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments actually it was. because I knew we need to use the S but was wondering how an added book title can go in there. I thought it may be smth more complex that I need to do to strike a book title with a link.

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) | 2388 comments sorry for butting in but I guess you have to add more titles there in your list or only the first in the series. if someone has nominated a book that scratches out the probability of anyone else nominating the next books in the series... but it's my opinion only.. :) I want to nominate but the titles I have read has already been nominated or are part of the series. :(

I'm not sure what you mean? Why not pick the second book of a series? Zaara did so as well with The Desert Spear...

And the goal of this challenge is to reduce the number of books on my TBR... I added all books I own, so I can't add more...

I meant to say that putting a series there means that if someone picked first in the series for you then it is understood that you are going to read second, third, or fourth book too. But I didn't know you own all those books, hence the suggestion. :)

I nominate Fool's Quest.

That's ok Anni. :) Manju's reply didn't make sense for her but turned out to make sense for me. :D
It was pretty funny actually!! 😂🤣

Haha, not necessarily... I guess a decend person would read a series back to back, but sometimes I fancy something else and than the series sits half finished on my shelf. That's why I end up with too many unfinished series.

And thanks, I will add it.

Sometimes it's really funny how ozr brains work 😂

message 60: by Kathrine (new)

Kathrine | 1249 comments I nominate Runemarks because I read that a few months ago and it was quite a fun take on Norse Mythology! :D

Anni | 5066 comments Kathrine wrote: "I nominate Runemarks because I read that a few months ago and it was quite a fun take on Norse Mythology! :D"

That sounds really promising, and I'm glad you chose that book. I own it far too long and without a little nudge it might have stayed on my shelf for much longer... So thanks :)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments I’ll bite besides it’s nearly New Year’s Eve so think of this as my early gift

Personally I think your bingo challenge is lacking some action packed testosterone so I nominate Legend by David Gemmel

I would put it after desert spear your gonna need it

I’m hoping by the end of the book you’ll probably grow a beard by how epic and bad ass it is....and you’ll probably get arthritis as well 😂😂😂😂

message 63: by Bea (new)

Bea | 2050 comments Is it ok to choose a third book? If so, I'm nominating Emil and the Detectives :)

message 64: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Then I want to choose a second one too!! May I? And I promise I'll make it one that doesn't give you Arthritis, unlike our man here.

Perhaps we could convince him to start a challenge like this also and then choose only 800+ pages tomes for him. :D

message 65: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1619 comments I will choose a second one - Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, or if I can add something new - City of Stairs - superb book!

P.S. - have you read any other Ken Folletts?

message 66: by Ahdam (new)

Yes, please do! :)
You mean Legend? It's not that thick isn't it?

Not like Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrel, for example, this one is huge 😂 But thanks for choosing it Kari! :)

You think so? And here was I thinking my Bingo challenge already had some action packed testosterone :D I hope I won't grow a beard, I don't think it will match with my haircut...

message 70: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments Karishma wrote: "P.S. - have you read any other Ken Folletts?"

I do, but I already read most of them :)

message 71: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Nah surprisingly the drenai books are really short so you won’t have much trouble but this book is more like a small shotgun blast every second

message 72: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Yes. I meant Legend. And I'd like to choose that for you. It's shorter and fast paced and all about Druss. I loved it!
And Ahdam is right. Drenai books are all on the smaller side. :)

message 73: by Karishma (new)

Karishma (karishmanewar) | 1619 comments Sir Anni wrote: "Karishma wrote: "P.S. - have you read any other Ken Folletts?"

Okay good, because I have read a lot of his books too and Whiteout is not a great introduction for someone to his work, so asked!

message 74: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments You have got to be kidding me! Ahdam is doing the BINGO!! Wow!
It didn't even cross my mind he's gonna go for it but he did!!!

message 75: by Ahdam (new)

Ahdam (snowlocke) | 2429 comments Yeeep it’s either gonna be the best thing I did or the worst

message 76: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments We'll just have to wait and see right!? I promise to be nice. Nice and unreasonable! :D

By the way? Did you vote on mine?

And you should reserve one more comment just in case. I needed it.

But that's the one Ahdam picked for me and the one I thought you were referring to 😅
So you could choose again

Anni | 5066 comments Bea wrote: "Is it ok to choose a third book? If so, I'm nominating Emil and the Detectives :)"

Haha, as I added it I was already wondering if someone beside you knows it, I'm not sure how popular Kästner is abroad. I will keep it in mind, if no one else shows up :)

Ah, thanks fir the warning anyway! So you already read it? Years ago I read a lot historical fiction books and books by Ken Follett. I bought Whiteout back then, but somehow never picked it up because I wasn't in the mood...

That's why I chose it, haha :)

message 81: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments Oh! Shoot!
I'll choose The Eight Guardian then, because it's on the shorter side, the blurb sounds interesting and I'm curious to see how you'll like it. :)

Oooooooupss...just remembered you were gonna read the Demon Cycle with Hailee and figured you will make it at least to Book 2, before deciding...then...just in case you "needed" some extra motivation to continue...this might tip the scale...
😜😈

Siobhan wrote: "Great idea, Anni!
I would like to nominate...
Half a King because I really liked it, and The Left Hand of God so I can read it with you! XD"

Ohkkk I see you need a couple more votes? I see Siobhan chose The Left Hand of God...I have the trilogy too...so Book 2 of that.
And it's Slot #25...I'm ringing that closing bell.
Also they have some crap reviews out there for this one too...that's sooooo me...with the tasteless, non-classy book selections. Haha, Ooooouuuuw!
Keep it on "standby" in case others come in and want to vote later in the day...
Happy 2019, luv.

Yes I read it last year and did not like it.

I read a lot of Ken Follett's when I was 13ish - my cousin grandmother borrowed from her library and she always shared her books with me.

I haven't read his trilogies, only almost all the standalones

message 85: by Zaara (last edited Dec 31, 2018 11:13PM) (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments Pillars of the Earth crashed and burned...Book 1 was great...book 2 okayish but in the same mould...book 3 was purely milking the cash cow...
Only the cow died when nobody was looking and its soul went to the bovine everafter...it was just.so.tired...

Luckily all the books stand alone. You should read the first book, Kari. The hype wasn't just for nothing...if you like it, read the second book but cut ties with the series after...you'll thank me...

message 86: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments I liked the popcorn WW 2 novels at that age too...and Forsyth...

I will try, same here with the Forsyth, my library was full of them and somebody called Irvine something.

I already read book 1 of the Demon Cycle a while ago and actually liked it, especially the worldbuilding, but I heared the series went downhill, but who knows, maybe we will love it! :) I already own book 1-4 and I plan to read them all!

And thanks for choosing, we should read them together!
