Salwade | 14 comments At Christmas, my daughter gave me Edinburg by Alexander Chee. I plan to read that for this task; as of January 1, when I put it on my plan for this task, it had fewer than 100 reviews on Goodreads. It looks like it has gained traction this year and the number of reviews has increased. I hope to finish it next week. Hard subject but absolutely beautiful prose.

That book sounds fascinating, and I'm adding it to my 'to read' list outside of this challenge. Thanks for highlighting it.

Salwade | 14 comments Good to now. I have that on my mental ‘to read’ list. Locks very interesting.

Kate | 116 comments Cross-posting to say that I finished this, unexpectedly, with a double dip for the self-published category. Some Hindi-English bilingual board books showed up at work today and they weren't even on Goodreads! Animals

Sheri | 75 comments I read On Both Banks which I was given in a book exchange. It's by another member in the group, which I thought was pretty cool. It was published in 2015 and only had two ratings on Goodreads before I rated it. I liked it, fascinating story where the protectors of our world were all horrifying creatures, that needed to be that horrifying to scare off the bad things that were even worse.

Leslie (updates on SG) (leslie_ann) | 153 comments This book is not only the first major Uzbek work to be translated into English, but recently won the 2019 ERBD Literature Prize: Hamid Ismailov's The Devil's Dance.

Beth (drippingfaucet) | 13 comments Considering reading Crossing the Line: A Bluejacket's Odyssey in World War II if I can find a copy of it - 81 reviews, and it sounds really interesting.

Mya R | 279 comments I just discovered Sirena: A Mermaid Legend from Guam, by Chamorro authors Tanya Taimanglo. If you want to double-dip, it meets 4 tasks. It works as:

#8: an #ownvoices book set in Oceania (the Chamorro are the indigenous people of Guam & the author & illustrator are both Chamorro)
#9: a book published prior to January 1, 2019, with fewer than 100 reviews on Goodreads
#15: A book of mythology or folklore
#23: A self-published book

And it's quite short & the kindle version is ~$3 on Amazon.

Valene Hill | 4 comments Just finished reading MY PIECE OF SKY stories of child sexual abuse by Mariella Furrer

It is a heartbreaking book to say the least.

Amber (amberpic) | 31 comments Just finished Encores for a Dilettante by Ursula Molinaro, which I have had on my shelves since college. It was meh. Very artsy.

Maryam (ardvisoor) | 66 comments Still struggling with this one, anything you liked? the issue is most of the suggested one I cannot find on Toronto library which is my source of books.

Three of my Read Harder books this year have fewer than 100 reviews. Chuck Amuck is an autobiography of animator Chuck Jones, who blessed us with some of the Best Bugs Bunny cartoons and the animated Grinch. (I gave it 4 stars) I guarantee that the Toronto Public Library will have the bottom two, which are written by Canadian authors: Out of the Blue by Jan Wong (a self-published memoir of workplace depression that I gave 5 stars)), and The Party Wall by Catherine Leroux (a collection of inter-twined short stories that I gave 4 stars).
If none of these interest you, just look on your shelf for books that books for may have been around a long time, or are local. You’d be surprised how many haven’t got a lot of written reviews.

Good luck

Malvina (malvina85) | 34 comments Tropic of Squalor: Poems has 48 reviews.

It's a fairly short poetry collection by Mary Karr published in 2018. I'm surprised it doesn't have more reviews since Mary Karr is a well known author.

message 115: by Carolina (new)

Carolina (calaqua) | 68 comments Is it acceptable to go by the reviews under 100, even if the ratings are over 100?

Stephanie | 6 comments Carolina wrote: "Is it acceptable to go by the reviews under 100, even if the ratings are over 100?"

Yes that's how I count it because it says reviews, not ratings.

Wellington (stenella) | 104 comments I read The Muffia by Ann Royal Nicholas. I laughed out loud quite a bit while reading this one.

message 118: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 8 comments Is there a way to search through good reads for books with under 100 reviews? I do t want to have to search book by book and so far most of the books listed in this post are now over 100. I have no idea how to find something.

I found this through a Google search: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Megan | 130 comments I just finished Done Crabbin': Noah Leaves the River by Gilbert Byron, which had 3 reviews and 6 ratings as of the time I read it. The edition I read was published in 1990 (I can't find the original publication date, but I believe it was late 1950s/early 1960s).
