Nate Holyoak Does anyone feel Robert Jordan looks down on men in wheel of time? The women's counsel in Edmonds field . The white tower being all women. The taint on make half ? And the countless other attacks he makes on men ?

Miles English I don't really think that at all. I think he was just trying to create a story with strong, relevant female characters, which was actually pretty rare when he started writing.

And since we're on the topic, I also don't agree with people who point out all those same examples to say that Jordan thought women are all domineering, humorless narcissists.

Paul Martin He was probably trying to show how a world could be led by women, given the right circumstances. In this case, those circumstances were that women were the only ones who practiced magic, granting them much power.

So the female characters are a product of this, I think. He was trying to portray how gender roles could be turned a bit upside down in a world like that. But to be honest: In my opinion he just ended up creating a handful of unbearably proud, arrogant and silly female characters who made the series drop from "great!" to "decent".

Josh Berry My take is more that Jordan's characters were as often to be wrong as they were right. Often times never even knowing they were wrong. Consider, at the end, how many thought the horn could have served the dark? Even though it was stated explicitly that they serve the dragon. Heck, the first time they were called, they wouldn't even move without his banner.

Consider, how many characters were just stupidly wrong on something (often many somethings) for a large potion of the book? How many were made directly aware of it? Really the only character that took this to heart was Moiraine. And it took her a long time to do so.

My favorite point on this, is that the one female character that most people like is literally the one character that is never wrong. By definition. What she said happened. Whether she wanted it to or not.

Similarly, the one male character that most people liked after a while was the one that just had things work out. Note that he wasn't the most powerful, just quite literally the "gambler."
