Herve | 39 comments Hello, I am looking for the title of a short story by Anne McCaffrey, read in hardback form (published by itself, not in an anthology) around 1990-2000. I have browsed her GR page but was unable to find it. The name was something sentimental, like "Promise of the Heart" and the book was very small and square in shape, like a novelty book of quotes or a children's board book. Thank you for your help.

Andy | 2124 comments ISFDB's listing of McCaffrey's works http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?176 includes a listing of 9 chapbooks:

A Time When (1975)
The Coelura (1983)
Habit Is an Old Horse (1986)
The Girl Who Heard Dragons (1986)
Rescue Run (1991)
The Dolphins' Bell (1993)
An Exchange of Gifts (1995)
No One Noticed the Cat (1996)
If Wishes Were Horses (1998)

One of these might be what you're looking for, since the format you describe sounds like a chapbook

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5385 comments You can see her ISFDB page here: http://www.isfdb.org/cgi-bin/ea.cgi?176
Listed in her short fiction is a short story called “The Greatest Love.”
Are you positive it was by Anne McCaffrey?
Do you think the words “promise” or “heart” were in the title?
What was the story about?

Herve | 39 comments This is my first encounter with the word chapbook, bit it is definitely An Exchange of Gifts. Thank you very much!

Herve | 39 comments Can someone please move this to solved? I seem to be missing a lot of controls in the app. Thank you again to everyone - we found it so fast, I will be able to look for it at the library today!
