Goonan has two books on the H/N list, Crescent City Rhapsody and Light Music, which are books 3 and 4 of a series, all with titles referencing music along the southern Mississippi River. They are post-apocalyptic tales & sound pretty decent from the descriptions.

I've got The Quiet War on my TBR but I don't recall putting it there or what prompted me to do so.

Stephen Burridge | 1122 comments Goonan had a story, “A Love Supreme”, in Year's Best SF 18, which I read this year. A strong story as I recall, and of course the title is another musical reference. She died in 2021.

Yes I've found it out and moreover, the first volume of the series, where 4th was a nominee isn't available on audio - a rare thing for award nominees

I recently picked up CCR and Light Music and I'm ready to go with that series when we want to try her out.

I have some of these, but I would prefer to start with book 1
