It is a team challenge. You can go solo though if you don't want to be on a team.

Question, and I apologize if it's been answered already. It says that each category is repeatable. Does this mean that we have to get through the entire list and then we are able to start over? Or can we use the same category as many times as we want without completing all?

I think you could use like #2 for all your books if you wanted. But if you complete them all you get bonus points? That's how I understand it.

You don't have to go through the entire list - we just are giving each team an incentive to want to (aka get bonus points). But, yes, like bookbuyer said you can do the same category for the entire challenge if you want.
