Polaris. The name of the North Star that all competent seamen use to navigate the waters—name of an old lore passed on from generation to generation. Parents whispered it into the ears of their children and these children ran about waving sticks for swords and pretended to be one of the pirate lords.

There was a time, long ago around the 1600s, when the Legend of Polaris was at its peak. Every pirate whispered of the untraceable island and the wonder ensnared within it. There were rumors of an elixir—one that would allow a mortal man to escape the clutches of Death. No matter the affliction, no matter age or gender, the Elixir was said to give any person a life everlasting. Word traveled across the Seven Seas, piquing the interest of every one of the pirate lords that reigned the waters.

"Whoever had eternal life, had divine right to forever rule the seas."

These pirate lords set sail from all across the Earth, marking their maps and using the North Star to guide them towards said island. It was a race to the edge of the world, but the problem was: nobody knew where it was.

After months of aimlessly sailing after the North Star, the ships of the seven pirate lords converged at one point. There, something happened that even the most experienced sailor could explain; the heavens split in two and the seas churned with a thunderous rage. Rain and hail mixed with sharp winds whipped at the skin of the crew—and when all hope was lost, the ships crashed. Crashed. Powerful magic had shielded the island from wandering eyes, and even stronger forces protected the Elixir.

Each crew member was killed: taken out one by one until nobody but the pirate lords remained on the Island of Polaris. They drew a pact, creating a guide to the island with what little resources they could find. They wrote in riddles and warned any who discovered the map of the Mouri that inhabited the vast land. The map was rolled up and shoved into their last remaining rum bottle and set out into the sea. Shortly thereafter, the pirate lords took their lives unwilling to face further grief and torture. With them, died most of the legend.

That is—until just two years ago, in 1648, when rumours of the Elixir of Life heightened once more. The Golden Age of Piracy was ending, and the Navy set bounties on each pirate lord’s head. The map of Polaris was discovered by Captain Calico Brimms, the most notorious pirate lord of them all. He sparked yet another race for the Elixir, and in doing so, lead the other six pirate lords and a Navy ship the the Convergence point marked on the map.

The same storm struck. The same magic unraveled and eight ships crashed into the shore around Polaris. Now stranded with the dangers of sirens in the shallow waters and Mouri awakening from their dormant state, all persons are held accountable for themselves… and all persons are counted upon to stay true to their colours.
