Not quite there yet, but you described what I was trying to say a comment or 2 ago... this is going so much faster than Dragon Republic for me... audiobook speedup helps tho...
I clicked your spoiler even tho I shouldn't have, and your talk of shifting POVs frequently reminds me of all Scott's warnings about Malazan, lol...

Oh, and FWIW, I really enjoy Pacey, the narrator for all of Abercrombie's books. I ended up reading them mostly in book format during my re-read though.

The music and narration of these books are forever tied to the series... the second I loaded up this book and heard the same sounds and voices, Perfection...

This is exactly why I thought reading previous books would come in handy. I was reading their scenes with a sense of dread.
I finished... I definitely agree about the similarities between this book and the first book of the first trilogy... so much happened to change the game board at the end...
And that scene with (view spoiler) really paralleled the scenes between Jezal and Yuru Sulfur early in the first trilogy, too...
Unlike Silvana, I've always been in the camp of wanting to see Bayaz taken down a notch or two... not sure how realistic that is in this world, where he's basically the Wizard of Oz, controlling everything from behind the curtain of Valants and Balk, but here we are...

Sorry... must have misattributed that to you... I read a lot of comments about First Law yesterday... most in here were you and Rob, but I also skimmed a reddit thread... maybe it came from there...

Uh, that do make sense as well, I just asumed that the sun stands for the union, as that's what their banners show, or do I mess things up here?

RE chapter 2 - I like it! XD (view spoiler)
I also adored that part of chapter 4! :D
And yep, chapter 5 was definitely "oh shit!" 😅
In up to chapter 12 and still getting to know different POVs. I like that there's so many characters!

But it will be just another rehash of the first trilogy, no?I hope we get a new super powered player. Did not the Maker have more students?

I'm tentatively hopeful that Bayaz and the other Magi/mage types will lose their power over normal "human?" destiny in that world. On the other hand that would go against Abercrombie norms where we should usually expect the worst/most satiricial outcome possible :)

Bayaz just needs to be the recipient of Abercrombie Justice

idiffer wrote: "Did you guys enjoy the dialogues as much as I did? I thought some of them were small masterpieces, like [spoilers removed]"Opened your spoiler now I'm done and I totally agree. The dialogues are such a strength. Loved that particular scene! :)
I'm still in the middle of Chapter 30, but I agree, I really love how Abrcrombie use the different POVs and the change between them to tell the story!Picking a favourit POV is pretty hard, but I think I would go with Rikke and Savine...
Silvana wrote: "I will go with Savine and Clover too. The Savine thing is obviously affected by her parents :D"Obviously XD she can't help but be awesome.
I finished as well, 6 Stars! ✨✨ :)I loved this book to pieces, all the "old" characters showing up again made me a bit nostalgic :D I think it was really well done how Abercrombie mixed old and new characters together.
Also I think it's amazing how a book can be so bloody, dirty and also slightly imature at the same time as really thoughtful, wise and witty. There are a lot of things that make you question society and motives and also a lot of great quotes. On top of that I really love the humor and it made me laugh and smile a lot of times.
Only slightly negative thing I might say is that I wished the ending would have been a little more closed, it felt more like the ending of a book part not a book 😅

Yes - I agree. I definitely want the next one now since there is no closure, but given how many old characters got included and how many have not made their presence known (view spoiler) there is plenty to be excited about.
