Davin | 3 comments I think I read it on highschool around 1992 but it was clearly from the 40's or 50's. I thought it was a Ray Bradbury story but I cannot find it without a list of titles & plots.
The protagonist described himself as not as smart as his pets so he focused on learning about their research and then connecting them to achieve greater results. The story climax is a rocket launch with secret cargo planned by the protagonist and then there is a twist.
The protagonist's work methodology has inspired me dreams even though his goals do not match mine.

Davin, did you find this short story in a sci fi collection/anthology? What is the common theme? One or multiple authors?

Can you tell us more about the main character - his age, job/skills, who he worked for, home town/country, etc.?

Is this short story (book) for older adults or teens (young adults)?

I believe the it was a short story in a Science Fiction collection by a single author (but I may be wrong). Every story stood on its own although disappointment & dystopia were common themes.

(view spoiler)
