ABANDONED. Science Fiction short story about scientist connecting other scientists work to achieve amazing results

I think I read it on highschool around 1992 but it was clearly from the 40's or 50's. I thought it was a Ray Bradbury story but I cannot find it without a list of titles & plots.
The protagonist described himself as not as smart as his pets so he focused on learning about their research and then connecting them to achieve greater results. The story climax is a rocket launch with secret cargo planned by the protagonist and then there is a twist.
The protagonist's work methodology has inspired me dreams even though his goals do not match mine.

I believe the it was a short story in a Science Fiction collection by a single author (but I may be wrong). Every story stood on its own although disappointment & dystopia were common themes.

The main character was a white middle aged man, possibly divorced & looking to change the status quo between men & women by forcing women into heat to be more subservient to men. He used his access to the other scientists research to formulate a chemical and sneak it onto a rocket launch. The effort backfired and men became more hormonal & dependent on women.
