This is his note

I am a fellow indie author and founder of the Coalition of Indie Authors for Literacy – a digital bookstore for high-quality, self-published titles. From our website, indie books will be offered to consumers in a “Buy-One, Give-One” model to foster childhood literacy: Buy a book from us, give the gift of literacy to a child in need. We need authors to join the movement, and we are interested in you!

The Model:

eBooks on our website will sell for $5.99 ea. With each sale, $3 will go to the author as a royalty (this is a limited time offer for the first wave of authors!). The balance will be allocated to both a national non-profit to help orchestrate our mission of fostering childhood literacy and the Coalition of Indie Authors for Literacy to be reinvested in building and maintaining our customer base. We’re confident that the conscious consumerism aspect of this model will provide greater collective marketing power than our individual efforts. If you’d like to sell your book for more than $5.99 – please let me know. We’ll work it out.

The Mission:

Childhood illiteracy is a vast, dangerous, systemic problem in this country. I don’t think anyone disagrees. We’re here to help.

The Name:

Fear not, it’s changing. The Coalition of Indie Authors for Literacy is our legal name. We’re working with a branding firm to develop the right “brand voice” for our organization. In the sake of time, we’ll refer to the company as The Coalition.

When:

We’re targeting May 2019 to launch the website and begin offering your content to the world.

What has Amazon or iTunes done for you lately?

For me and my novel, the answer is simple: nothing. Are these platforms doing anything to promote you and your work? Or, are they simply a means for readers to download? We want to shift the paradigm for indie authors. The Coalition will be actively marketing you and your work by putting you on the front page, providing suggested reads for consumers, and so much more.

What We’re Asking of You:

Joining The Coalition is not your only platform. We encourage our authors to list their work on various other sites. However, we do ask that you promote The Coalition as the primary platform to purchase your work. As we launch, we will provide you with customized “Buy Now” buttons and links to add to your author website or social media page. We just ask that you display it front and center please!

Worried About Conflicts with Other Platforms?

Don’t be. If you currently offer your work as part of the Kindle Unlimited (KU) program, you will need to adjust your Amazon account. It’s easy. Let us know if you need help with the process as I recently did it. Your book will still be available on Amazon / Kindle, and it allows you to list with us. If you’re NOT enrolled in KU, then you’re fine. Doesn’t it feel nice owning the digital rights to your work?

Is The Coalition for ebooks only?

Glad you asked. The short answer is no. Soon after launch, we want to integrate Print on Demand (POD) as an option for our readers. We’re very excited about this aspect as we feel it will fuel the fire of our mission on social media because who doesn’t love to hold a real book in their hands?

Is The Coalition open to all indie authors?

Nope! We’re looking for authors who are serious about their craft. We believe that high quality storytelling is the best way to bring our audience back for more.

How to Join Us:

Easy. Just reply to this email and let us know you’re interested. As the launch date approaches, we’ll provide instruction on how to sign-up and download your work to our site.

D.J. Cooper | 1028 comments I've seriously had nothing since I put the book in KU and reactivated the UK Amazon ads. In fact there's been nothing since I bought the books for the Miami Book fair. I've got to look into doing the US Amazon ads. I sell more in the US than the UK.

I've never put anything on KU, but it always sounded to me like a bad deal. They give you a few perks, but you restrict yourself to a single market during the very time period in which most books sell most of their copies. I guess that's good for Amazon, but probably not for most authors.
