30.1 – Schatzie’s Task: Gotta love the Hero!

Hero: a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

This is a two book task. Choose 2 different options and a read a book from each. REQUIRED: State which options you choose when posting.

Option 1: Katniss, Flavia de Luce, and Harry Potter are three of my favorite Young Adult heroes. Read a book with a mpg of Young Adult.

Option 2: Christopher Reeve (Superman) is one of my favorite actors who had significant roles as heroes. Read a book by an author who shares a first or last name of an actor who played a hero from this list of movies : Greatest Movie Heroes Only numbers 1 through 50 on the list can be used. The list is also found in post 4 of the Help Thread.

Names must match exactly, but may be found in any position - for example, Kim Harrison works for Harrison Ford.

REQUIRED: state the number on the list, and the actor when posting.

Opt. 3: I have loved so many different literature heroes. It’s hard to pick a favorite. But the ones that stand out the most are the ones from a series. Read a book from one of your favorite series (a series you have already started) that features a hero. This book must be new to you and cannot be #1 in a series.

REQUIRED: state that this book is new to you, that this is a series you have read before, and state the series name.

Brooke | 1109 comments For option 3, does the hero in the series have to be of a certain profession (similar to task 10.2), or can it be any character we would consider heroic? I'm specifically asking about Harry Dresden from The Dresden Files series. He is a wizard who is always catching/eliminating a bad guy to save people in Chicago.

Whoever you think is a hero works. And just for the record, I LOVE Harry Dresden....and he certainly would qualify as a hero in my book.

Thanks, Donna! I'm over halfway through the series and always try to find tasks that will work for the books. I love Harry too. :-)

A hero is whoever you think is a hero. Good qualities, saves the day, courage, makes good choices....etc.

Hi Cat, I accept that as a series. I read over the SRC rules and I didn't see anything that says no.

Hi Ed, I don't have an opt. 4? Is this the right thread or did you mean a different option?

message 22: by Cindie (new)

Cindie | 1835 comments Would you say this works for option 3: Murder at the Grand Raj Palace? The main character, Inspector Chopra, is a retired long-serving inspector in the police force, who adopts a baby elephant, a homeless child (both along with his wife) and buys and re-opens an almost "lights out" restaurant business that he runs for former and current police officers...?

Rayne (raynebair) | 303 comments For option 2, does it have to be a single author book? Or can I use one that has a co-writer. Such as a James Patterson book where he's not the sole author, but the book is billed as primarily his.

I found another book that works. :)

I think it meets the task requirements of being a part of a series and it has a hero in it.

You asked a great question. It does NOT have to be a single author, in case you need to swap out your choice.

Hi, Here is a correction to message #26. Apparently there is a default rule, which reads as follows:

7. What if a book has multiple authors in a task involving author names or initials?
The general default rule is that books by a single author must be used. This can be varied by the task creator.

Sorry for any confusion. I should have known that by now.
