All done finally!! Just binged the last 4 hours of the audiobook because it was so good!

I really love how Sanderson ended this. Everything came together so well and I'm super anxious to jump into the second book later this month. Spensa was such a great character - she was strong but also flawed and doubted herself and had to learn and grow a lot during this book. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4 - (view spoiler)[I'm guessing there was a good reason that Spensa's father took off. He seemed like a great guy so I bet he didn't intentionally dessert his fleet.

I'm really angry that everyone let Spensa believe she could do anything she wanted if they had no intentions of letting her pass the exam. I don't think it was a test, I think they genuinely don't want her to pass but maybe she'll perform in such a way that they can't say no? (hide spoiler)]

I love a book that has a group of people who never would normally interact with each other forced into some situation where they have to rely on each other and they become like a family. I can sense that happening with this flight. (hide spoiler)]

What I do love though is how quick this book is to read. I'm flying through each page so much faster than I usually would, it's crazy.
This is my first book by Brandon Sanderson, and while the plot so far isn't the best, I do really like his writing style.

(view spoiler)[ What the hell happened in this chapter? I had very high expectations for this book when I first started it but all I've been doing so far is rolling my eyes. I hate spensa, I hate her friend and I hate practically every character we've met so far. I don't understand why I keep getting so annoyed. I'm realising I don't actually really like the writing style, it feels very young and informal, and that comes from someone who reads both young adult and middle grade books regularly.
And what is wrong with the people in this flight school? The pilots are supposed to be top class, but they just asked a bunch of cadets who, mind you, *crashed their planes the first time they tried to start*, to go and aid in a krell attack? I don't understand how this civilisation survived if this is how they do things here. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I don't know how I feel about this book. I'm intrigued by the story, but so many things annoy me about it. My expectations for Brandon Sanderson were very high, and so far he's nowhere near reaching them.
I love the talking ship. It's such a fun idea, and I think he plays it well. I like the mushroom quirk it has and honestly, everything about it.
What I hate is Spensa. For someone as old as she is, she sure is immature. I thought the whole 'Jerkface' nickname was a one time thing because she was angry but oh wow, no, it stayed, and it's only getting more annoying. He has a name Spensa, use it. I don't even really understand her huge rivalry with Jorgen. It's not like he actually did anything to her, Spensa is just buthurt that he has a great life while she struggles so much. Well newsflash, life's a bitch.
I really have it up to here with their childish bickering, and I'm praying to god that it stops soon. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[on the more to the story part, I had this underlying feeling as I was reading that her father might still be alive, especially with his former partner agreeing with Spensa that some pilots crash but survive. the way he mentioned it was peculiar. and yes! I do find Spensa a bit over the top. definitely just a bit, haha. she's quite out there, and I've never really read a main character with these traits before, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes! owh. you guys. (view spoiler)[I was attached to Morningtide and Bim the most out of the flight, besides our main and Quirk. my heart definitely, definitely took a hit. Spensa was just opening up to them too, looking out for Morningtide and playful with Bim. agh. Ironsides continues to grate on my nerves! but I'm glad to see Rig again! I thought he wouldn't show up again until much later. I have a feeling the Krell ARE humans, my curiosity piques there and with the ancient ship. I really don't want to believe that that was it for the two that were lost, so I'm naively going to not accept this fact and pretend that they either ejected or were magically sent somewhere else. (view spoiler)[aaand we're down to six. this book has an apparent pattern of drawing me in so close to the flight, and with little effort, right before taking them away! as usual, I'm holding onto the idea that that wasn't the last of Nedd. it felt abrupt, and he didn't actually officially verbally stated his leave so I hold onto his reappearance, though unlikely but I can't help it! on another note, I adore M-Bot! charmed, really. by an AI. ridiculous. and the whole Krell thing just got more interesting, along with setting Ironside straight!
