I'm looking for the name of a book I read back in the 1970s or 1980s. It takes place in the 1890s or early 1900s. I think it takes place in Europe - possibly Italy. It is about a young woman who is given a ring - she was told anyone who saw she was wearing it would recognize what it meant and she would not be harmed (possibly from "organized crime"). The title is possibly something like "Secret of the .... Ring" or "The .... Ring".

Kris, if I remember correctly if was her father who gave the heroine the ring. Not just as a "gift" but rather as a passing on to her whatever it was he did (possibly head of or part of a secret society of some sort?) Anyone who saw her wearing the ring (and recognized it) would know who she was and that she was protected because of it.
No fantasy but there is some romance. The primary focus of the story are the things that start occurring to her once she gets the ring (bad people, etc) and her battling those things. In the end, she does win against the bad people. I can't remember much detail in exactly what occurred - too long ago.
The copy of the book I read was a paperback, it did picture the heroine in the foreground. She was wearing the ring. I think the ring was oval shaped, but I don't remember if there were any stones on the ring. I think it was more of a signet ring. There were other people/places that were part of the story depicted in the background.
I FOUND IT!! - The name of the book is The Magic Ring by Dorothy Daniels.
