What Sells is what I want to write?

I had to decide if I wanted to write what would be profitable or what would satisfy me as an author. If you are solely interested in making money it is very wise to write romance or have it as a feature part of your writing.

This was something I thought about for a long time. I wanted to write stories that were dark and had a powerful message. Writing books that contained romance wasn't something that I would enjoy. After a long period of thought, I finally decided to write the way I loved. It was my belief that a well-written story will prevail. That is not always the case but so far I have been amazingly successful. It just goes to show you that writing in a template that is considered protocol is not always the answer.

What if I wasn't successful? I would tweak my writing until I gained favor from readers, but my end conclusion was that sacrificing my creative outlook on writing wasn't worth it. I enjoy what I do. :)

I hope everybody out there writes what they believe to be true to them and those who are strictly looking to profit, I also wish you the best. I believe in taking a different path.

I agree with you, Max. If romance is an organic part of the story, then, yes, it does belong, but to just be added in to satisfy some readers doesn't work for me.

And I really don't like to read books where it is obvious the romance love/sex scenes were plugged in to attract readers who look for those elements in a story.
