Amber Davila | 3 comments Please bear with me, with my description of the book since i read it over 15 yrs ago but can't forget the story. If memory serves, this is how it went.

A noble lady was on the run from a forced marriage arrangement from a man who i believe murdered her father or uncle.. Well she was on the run on horseback, eventually ran into a man who was traveling as a bard or storyteller.. and he cut her hair and helped disguise her as a boy and she traveled with him and i believe even sang as a bard when they traveled. They slept in stables, outside and at inns. She was traveling to her god/grandmother in another area for safety. at some point near the end, the would-be fiance found her in a tavern and beat her while he was drunk but then was arrested. I think the traveler also seemed to be some sort of higher rank in the end and ended up marrying her maybe?

Not much to go on, but i remember really liking the story.

She may have had a pair of scissors with her, but i may be crossing stories with that bit of information..

ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Thank you for your time reading, and trying to assist me!

caracal-eyes | 134 comments Do you know if it was adult fiction or YA?

I doubt this is the one, but it has a girl who disguises herself as a boy and flees to escape marriage, and becomes a scop (bard): Far Traveler.
Never mind--just looked, and it was published in 2005. Oh well, guess I'll look again.

Charming the Shrew by Laurin Wittig is somewhat similar (runs away to avoid marriage, meets a traveling bard) - but it appears to be have been first published in 2004.
