SOLVED. SciFi/Fantasy: "Actors" sent from high-tech world/dimension to low-tech/magic world/dimension for entertainment purposes (1980s/90s)

This was a book/series I read back in the 1980s/90's, about a world/dimension that had the technological capability to insert a person into a lower tech/magical world/dimension. The "actors" then had "adventures" which were recorded for entertainment purposes back on the high-tech world.

The main character was a famous fighter (or assassin), and was married to another "actor" who was a Priestess--I believe for a river god.

I believe there were 2-3 books in the series.
