A while back someone asked me to start group reads or buddy reads. At that time I didnt feel like I had the time to devote to it and no one else volunteered for the undertaking. Now I feel like I have the time to do it so just wondering if anyone is interested. I dont want to do it if only a few want to do it. Let me know.

I found this group that looks interesting if you want to do challenges. It is nonfiction but focuses only on Pulitzer Prize winners and nominees. It looked like I had read quite a few of the books they have done for challenges so I'm going to try it. I have 2 right now from the library that are recent challenges. If anyone is interested:

Selina (literatelibrarian) | 3104 comments Looks interesting Koren although I havent read any of the books listed on their shelf, most seem to be American history. Might be a bit 'dry' for me.

I have an idea for buddy reads is we each have a buddy and we read a book that's set in the other persons hometown. It could be fictional or non fiction. So someone may want to read a story or memoir set in Auckland and I can read one set in their hometown.

You would have a hard time finding a book set in my area. There aren't very many.

Selina, I it seems like you have an easy time finding books about the US in New Zealand but I dont think we would have a very easy time finding books about your country.

Selina (literatelibrarian) | 3104 comments Surely there must be some books on my country in your library. You could read a biography of Sir Edmund Hillary.

Well its not really a challenge if its too easy....

Sometimes 'easy' is the best we can do! So I did a search on the library website and I do have to say the title of this one caught my eye and I ordered it:

Come On Shore and We Will Kill and Eat You All: A New Zealand Story

So...game on!!! I have my New Zealand book! Also, a bit of a coincidence, the next book I started is a bio of Laura Ingalls Wilder, who spent some time in Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Missouri. I'm only about 40 pages in but if you are a Little House On The Prairie fan I highly recommend this book so far.

Ok I'm going to choose this book - The World of Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Frontier Landscapes that Inspired the Little House Books by Marta MacDowell
The same author wrote All the Presidents' Gardens: Madison’s Cabbages to Kennedy’s Roses—How the White House Grounds Have Grown with America

I am going to start a new discussion for our first reading challenge and I think we will have it be a challenge where we read a book that takes place somewhat locally to another person in the challenge. Let's have it go to the end of the year, as I am sure most of us will be busy with the holidays.
