Very vague recollection of this semi-fantasy, kind of dark book that involves a fair/carnival type thing that pops up in different locations. I think the main character is a child that gets wrapped up in some dangerous things in the fair, and there are secrets and magic involved?

Do you have a recollection around which year it would have been published, or remember anything about the time it was set in?

Possibly written in the 90's? I could be way off on both of those, it's so vague in my head. Thanks for the reply.
Maybe The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The protagonist is not a child but there are chapters written from the perspective of a child visiting the Circus.
