24 - a book that takes place in a single day
Would Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk work for this then? It has been on my Book of the Month Club back log for waaaaay too long. I know it seems to mostly take place on New Year's Eve (besides the throwback memories) but I'm not sure how it ends. Has anyone read it?
I am reading this for another prompt this year (a book told from multiple POVs), but I do believe A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult would fit this prompt as well!

Recommending Saturday by Ian McEwan. I loved it when I read it in high school. Might reread for this.
I found this list so hope all the books really holds the requirement of only taking place over one day. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
If not please let me know and I will take it down.
Anabell's list contained all the recommendations I was going to make, barring one:
The Death of Virgil
by Hermann Broch.

Oh! awesome!! I do want to read that!! is it all in one day?! perfect

Technically, it's about her life, but all the action is in 1 day.
Johanne wrote: "They Both Die at the End is all in one day"Perfect, thanks Johanne :-)
Also, A Spark of Light
Jenny wrote: "The Sun Is Also a Star"I wish I hadn't just read that! Its a great read, I recomment it to everyone who hasn't.

thank you it helped me a lot :)
I found mine!A Night to Remember
Here's a Goodreads list that was very helpful to me:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
I've got The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight on my TBR and it fits here! I love when things on my TBR match prompts.
Has anyone read The Weight of Silence? I saw it on the "One Day" Listopia but the description doesn't sound like one day? I need this for a different challenge and I wouldn't mind double dipping.
How about The Sun Is Also a Star - I've heard it takes place in an airport during the course of a day. It would also count for book that's becoming a movie in 2019 and multiple POVs.Or I might get and read A Spark of Light - I've been very interested in checking it out ever since I read Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts - the premise is quite similar, though Shelter In Place covers years, not just a day.
Hopefully Night of the Living Trekkies works for this prompt -- according to the plot synopsis it SEEMS to take place in a single night at a hotel. If it doesn't work, then hopefully it's at least entertaining and I can find another book...

I have this book and haven't read it yet - this is perfect. Thanks for the reminder!
Azrah wrote: "anymore YA suggestions? I've read all the ones mentioned above : /"How young is your reader? I just read that list in the link that Anabell shared, and saw this one: Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. Also, Brittany's suggestion of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, by Jennifer E. Smith. That one has a 17 year old protagonist.
Kenya wrote: "Hopefully Night of the Living Trekkies works for this prompt -- according to the plot synopsis it SEEMS to take place in a single night at a hotel. If it doesn't work, then hopefully..."This one sounds a lot like the book I read this year, for an author with my (last) name: Shatnerquake, by Jeff Burk. That also takes place over one night at a Shatner Convention! It was from a small press and I had to actually buy a copy from Amazon.
I love some of these suggestions and I suspect I might end up with a few titles for this prompt this year!I also recommend The Mezzanine, by Nicholson Baker. I read it for a previous PopSugar Challenge for a really short book. It takes place over the course of ONE escalator ride!
It also would work for a book without chapters. The book may be short, but it is NOT an easy read! It's got footnotes that can sometimes take up the whole page. You have to decide if you want to stop to read the footnote, or read the paragraph, which you might have to turn the page to get to, and then go back to read the footnote.
I could not find the book anywhere but in paperback form, from my local library system.
And thanks to Brianna, for suggesting Long Way Down, by Jason Reynolds. It sounds similar, in an entirely different way! One long, elevator ride down. As someone who advocates for gun control, I would probably want to read this even if it didn't fit a prompt!
Azrah wrote: "anymore YA suggestions? I've read all the ones mentioned above : /"It might be stretch, but how about A Wrinkle in Time? Because of the time travel it's hard to say exactly how long it is subjectively, but it does end the same evening it starts. :-) (And, it's been a while so not sure if my memory is accurate, but I don't think they sleep at any point, so it could hardly be much more than a day subjectively either.)
If there are any Stephen King fans out there- I believe Dolores Claiborne takes place in a single day.(This is not at all a major spoiler, as you learn right from the beginning but just in case): (view spoiler)
I can’t edit my comment because I’m in the app, but Dolores Claiborne also works for the advanced prompt: Unusual format/no chapters. In case anyone wants to double dip.
I highly recommend Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day which was also made into an excellent movie starring Emma Thompson. Book is pretty short fast read too.
Azrah wrote: "anymore YA suggestions? I've read all the ones mentioned above : /"Run, Riot, Unboxed, Neverworld Wake, This Is Where It Ends and I think ...And a Happy New Year?.
I just picked up this one from my TBR, and the summary says it takes place in a 24 hour span of time: The Lobby
It's not available in my library, but I'd built up enough 'no rush shipping' credit on Amazon to just buy it for kindle, since it's marked down to $3.92 right now (USA).
Steph wrote: "Would Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk work for this then? It has been on my Book of the Month Club back log for waaaaay too long. I know it seems to mostly take place on New Year's Eve..."that should work!
Azrah wrote: "anymore YA suggestions? I've read all the ones mentioned above : /"Also Before I Fall is YA and technically takes place all in one day. Granted, the day is relived over and over again, but it's still the same day. Again.
The Importance of Being Earnest is on that list that a couple of people shared, so I'll go with that as my list is looking a bit low on classics, and I already read Mrs. Dalloway.
Jenny wrote: "The Sun Is Also a Star"I did not know would fit this prompt, but I'm pleased to hear it! It helps me justify picking up a second-hand copy the other day (I'm trying to cut down on such impulse buys) and adding it to my TBR pile.
Changed my mind, going to go for Arlington Park. There are also The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and Ian McEwan's Saturday

If you like to think outside the box, you could argue that a book like One Day would work. The entire book is set around 20 years of encounters between Dexter and Emma, but each encounter happens on the same date - July 15th. I read this book years ago and found it to be quite fun (not a big fan of the ending though).
