If it's for adults, it might be the Codex Alera series? I haven't read it, but it popped up in several places when I searched for "no magic ability", and some of the spoilers sound like it'd be a reasonable match.

It also goes by the title of Magic Zero.
I have no read this book, but I recently bought it and have been interested in it for some time. I hope this helps!

You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 44 where fewer eyes will see it.
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!

As I recall, the plot wasn't that the entire population had magic, but every member of the ruling class did. The MC was born without any abilities. Each family was only allowed to have one child, but since the main character was born without magic, he had a younger sister who did have the usual abilities of the nobility.
The Big Bad did something to cause the MC's powers to manifest in his teens/twenties as a means of causing chaos with the succession in the ruling class and incite antagonism between the MC and his sister.

It was the first in a series
It was a book about magic (so fantasy genre)
The plot was about a boy (teenager age I think) who lived in a world where pretty much everyone has/gets magic at one point but he didn't have magic so he was considered really weird. He had siblings I think, if so I’m pretty sure they were older then him. At the end of the book he has some kind of outer body experience (it might have been because he was dying or injured or something along those lines). Either through this outer body experience or through his dreams (can't remember which) he sees himself locked away in a castle or something. It's either a clone of himself or he is a clone of it (also can't remember which). Another thing is that right towards the end of the book he gets magic, the reason he didn't have it before was that it was suppressed or something because of that other him (clone thing).
The cover of the book was of a boy (assuming it was him) holding a sword with his back to us, and a dragon breathing fire at him.
The only other thing I remember is that in the book magic wasn't spelt magic it was spelt either magik or magick.
So yeah, good luck making any sense of that, and thank in advance I guess?
