Elise Andrews | 3 comments Hi, I am looking for an adventure book. The boy is from a Viking village at the white cliffs in England, they go out on a raid. Everyone is killed except the boy. He has to travel back to his land. Along the way he picks up a female companion. At one stage he stays at a Cathedral, and he learns a trade, when he leaves the Cathedral he joined by his companion again. Next he comes to an Old English village. Everyone stays in one main house, although there are other smaller houses around. He is challenged by the village to kill a dragon

Stephanie | 20 comments Aww bummer I don't know this one. I was gonna say Eragon.

Well it could be a book called Dragon Rider. I don't know what it's about I stumbled upon it while glancing at books the other day.

caracal-eyes | 134 comments Is this a stand-alone book or part of a series?
Any details on who the female companion is--like, how he meets her, where she comes from?
How big a part do dragons play in the story--is it just one event of many, or the book's climax, or what? And does he fight and kill the dragon?
Oh, and an estimate of when it was published or when you read would also be helpful.

Elise Andrews | 3 comments Hi, Thanks Stephanie, it is not a children/juvenile fiction.

Caracal-eyes, it is a stand alone book. The female companion just appears, she stays with him throughout the novel and leaves him at the end - she is the same sort of character as in Jodi Picoult's Second Glance ( which I happened to read straight after, so I could guess the character in her novel).

The dragon part doesn't appear until after half-way when they get to the English village. They want him to slay the dragon, when he does, he can drink the blood and live forever.

I read this book about 8 years ago. After I read it, I googled it, and read other people's reviews. Some people said they have it on their shelf and read it every year, so it may be a few years older than 8.
