This thread is to nominate our next series! Completed series only please!

Since we have been losing too many readers deciding on series a year ahead of time, for this nomination we will only be looking at the next series when our current series finish up in December.....

Nominate any series that we have not already read, and that are finished. Everyone has one nomination and one second. We will vote on all seconded series and have a run off of the top two vote getters.

Happy Nominating!

DylSyl (alwaysdillpickle) I'm not sure if you have read this, since I'm new to this group, but I recommend both:

1.) "Assassin's Apprentice" by Robin Hobb
2.) "Green Rider" by Kristen Britain

Thank you!

message 3: by Nyssa (last edited Nov 05, 2018 06:02PM) (new)

Nyssa | 17 comments Welp. I completely failed my reading goals for 2018, but I want to try again.

I'd like to nominate The Hollows by Kim Harrison.

If we include the bonus stories, then the series begins with The Turn: The Hollows Begins with Death. If we want to stick to the main novels, then it starts with Dead Witch Walking.

We read the WHOLE Realm of the Underlings of Hobb's, which includes the assassin's trio

I was thinking we need some Carol Berg! How about the Bridge of D'anarth series starting with Son of Avonar

Nyssa--I love some Hollows, but we try to stick with Epic Fantasy here in this group....

Oh. Okay. Then I'll have to see what others suggest. You guys have already read my other suggestions.

message 8: by Fer (new)

Fer B | 23 comments Hi! I'm new to this group too, but I would like to suggest first Stephen King's The Dark Tower series, but I'm not sure if you already have read the series or if it counts for this group.

The second nominated series is the Septimus saga. I don't know too many fantasy series, unfortunately.

Not a nomination, but a reminder that if anyone is reading the Sword of Truth series with me, I will continue the discussion through Book 11, which will go through March of 2019. So it will not be an “official” 2019 series read but I will continue posting the threads and comments in the Sword of Truth folder.

message 10: by Timothy (new)

Timothy (jeditimothy) | 10 comments Good omens by Neil gaiman
The color of magic by Terry Pritchett

An easy way to see if the group has read a series is to click on “Discussions” and scroll down past the “Off Topic”, “Roundtable”, and “Suggestions for future series” folders. The folders for the series the group has read in the past start there.

The Dark Tower series has been read.

Timothy, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch is not a series, although it is a wonderful book!
The Color of Magic is the first of the Discworld books. Are you nominating the whole Discworld series or just the Discworld books that are considered Rincewind books?

Nominated and seconded:
Bridge of D’anarth series by Carol Berg starting with Son of Avonar
Crossroads series by Kate Elliott starting with Spirit Gate
The Books of the Raksura series by Martha Wells starting with The Cloud Roads
Cycle of Fire series by Janny Wurts starting with Stormwarden
Belgariad series by David Eddings starting with Pawn of Prophecy
Green Rider series by Kristen Britain starting with Green Rider

Nominated but not yet seconded:
Septimus Heap series by Angie Sage starting with Magyk
The Acts of Caine series by Matthew Woodring Stover starting with Heroes Die
Shadowleague series by Maggie Furey starting with The Heart of Myrial

Keep ‘em coming!

message 18: by Marcin (new)

Marcin (mkarwin) | 6 comments I'd like to nominate something not that fresh, but a whole cycle nonetheless - I know it's been translated to some languages (most central- and east-european languages, I believe Chinese or Japanese was in the works years back) and as far as I know there were plans for even further translations/adaptations in the works (last I checked, so about 20 years ago ;) english, french, german, spanish and portugese to name a few, but this is still fairly unknown outside the centr-eastern area of Europe), so here goes my suggestion of 'Скитальцы Series' by Marina Dyachenko and Sergey Dyachenko - just 4 books in total, with omnibus versions also found in some languages, with the 1st book of the series being: Привратник

Is this series available in English?

message 20: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments I'm shocked that we haven't read the amazing series by Martha Wells, who is currently being people attention with Murderbot, that starts with The Cloud Roads.

Initially this seemed to be a trilogy but there are now five books. There are also two collections of short stories.

The stories are quite different to most fantasy series', I've read the first three but want to reread them to read the other two.

I'm pretty sure TorBooks worked on and published in English - I was given such book (#2 in cycle) bought by a friend at Amazon (it's here as well - titled The Scar, though I've traded it soon as I had Polish version of the whole cycle already... I do remember that the Russian publisher AST also worked on the cycle under the working title of "The Wanderers" in cooperation with Barnes&Noble for international support but I couldn't find the links here... There only vague notes of the cycle at such sites as https://dyachenkowriters.com/wanderers/ that I could locate with the #2 book being touted as a success, though for the other 3 - I've tried Amazon, B&N and Kobo to no avail... unfortunately. Perhaps some Russian or Ukrainian members can shed some more light on the matter.

From my research, only The Scar by Marina Dyachenko from that series is available in English, and yes, it was published by Tor. As far as I can tell, the other books in the series were not published in English by Tor or anyone else. There are a couple other books by Dyachenko available in English, but they are not part of this series. So I don’t think this series is eligible.
