2001: a space odyssey by Arthur C. Clarke (yes, this is how the title is on this original edition from my library) 2 stars rounded up

Another Clarke novel I ought to have read while in high school when I enjoyed his books--this time I read it for a book discussion. And finished it weeks ago, so am writing a bit of a stale review!

Suffice to say that I was not impressed by the story line, the characters or much of the action. Clarke was not a master of developing rich characters, has no female leads or leaders despite other scifi writers including some (another book from a few years earlier that I didn't like Babel-17--has a woman captain and linguist) which is so tiresome. I also found some of the concepts ludicrous now. That said, I am happy to have finally read it as I have never seen the movie and have always been curious. I won't be reading any of the other books in this series, though.
