Somehow I dropped off this thread but here I am again, with a recommendation specifically for Mirta! I was just over in the Georgette Heyer group where the talk turned to the Rothschilds. Someone recommended a trilogy from the 1980s or 90s by Carola Dunn about a young Jewish woman who must travel across Europe during the Napoleonic wars in the company of the Rothschilds' couriers. Thought you might enjoy them if you're not already familiar: Miss Jacobson's Journey, Lord Roworth's Reward, andThe Captain's Inheritance.

Hi folks, absentee Janeite reporting for duty! It may not be for long, as we're going away for a well-deserved holiday on Saturday and may be without wi-fi for a week and a half. I'm still reading and listening to Austenesque fiction but don't have much time for interacting online right now. I had a break from our beloved genre with my last audiobook and though probably not many here will appreciate this particular one, I thought I'd give it a shout out, just in case. As you may know, the other fandom hat I wear is more of a space helmet, instead of a bonnet. One of the TV series I have to watch is our own homegrown Doctor Who. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013 and a special episode, The Day of the Doctor, was made for that occasion. It's also been written as a novel and released as an ebook and audiobook. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor
Good to hear from you, Anji!
Sounds like a fun trip planned and no worries that you need to unplug for a while.
Oh, the doctor! Yes, I'm sure you will find some fellow Whovians in this group to enjoy the commemorative book.

Thanks for the heads up on this one Anji. I'm going to get it for my daughter for Christmas. She loves Doctor Who.
I grew up with the very early doctors when the Daleks were harmless looking dustbin type characters but they the scared you know what out of me as a child :):)

Know what you mean about the Daleks, Teresa. I occasionally had nightmares about them even into adulthood! I remember those very early black-and-white days and can still clearly see in my mind's eye their very first appearance on our TV screens. And I am indeed old enough to have seen the very first episode "An Unearthly Child" broadcast on 23rd November 1963!
I would have been eleven months old then Anji :) But I do remember them from about four or five years old. I was living in England then and had tv. When we moved to Ireland in 1968, we had no electricity so no tv and I didn't see it for many years again. I still have memories from England, young as I was.
This is on sale now and is getting a lot of five star reviews.https://www.amazon.com/Miss-Adelines-...
$0.99 [Beauty & the Beast story]:Lady Isabella's Ogre
60 reviews: 67% 5-stars & 20% 4-stars
Note: there was a concern in a review due to the explicit sex scene that they felt was unnecessary to the story and era. Just saying. Also, the cover is slightly different.
That's good to know J W and I wish more people would say it. I don't like graphic sex in my reading and would avoid a book if I knew it was in it.
