Poldark Box-set: books 1-3: $4.99:The Poldark Saga: Books 1 - 3
No reviews at this time on the box-set.
$0.99 deal: This looked cute. This author has 3 other books that are modern mysteries. This appears to be her first Regency story. It may suffer a bit from the time change and rules of the period. However, the reviews are fairly strong. Once Upon A Wallflower

I've decided to stop reading reviews for a while. I've reduced my free time by an hour per day, and in trying to maintain reading nearly all my friends' reviews, I haven't been able to keep up with e-mail. However, I'm still skimming the daily digests and am checking out any alerts that pop up on my screen. This comment is just in case anyone has noticed that I've not liked any reviews for a couple of days. On the up-side, when I get caught up on e-mail (meaning that I addressed anything dated within the last 24 hours), I've been working on a book review. And I've got one to share! This is a story set in 1814, and includes British and American characters.
My review of The Liberty Bride
Makes sense, Marlene--GoodReads can eat your time in lots of unexpected ways. And you have more than enough on your plate!

Yes, completely understandable about how you need to guard your time. I like your compromise plan. Very considerate of you to share why you are a little less present on GR for reviews. :)

Thanks all for your understanding and support! It's not the way I WANT to do things, but what I need to do for now. My husband is also taking a break from some of his down time for a few months. They're supposed to break ground next month, and we have a lot of work to do to get our rooms cleaned out, while still doing the work we usually need to do to keep things running!
Two fantastic books are on sale for 99¢ each: The Wrong Envelope and The Wrong Direction. Same characters. Each is a stand-alone, with Envelope preceding Direction. I highly recommend them both!

Made a conscious decision to dial back both my GoodReads and my reading time in order to spend more of my time in RL.
Debbie, The Wrong Direction is still showing $3.99. I have it on my wish list. The Wrong Envelope is showing $0.99
Debbie wrote: "Two fantastic books are on sale for 99¢ each: The Wrong Envelope and The Wrong Direction. Same characters. Each is a stand-alone, with Envelope preceding Direction. ..."Thanks Debbie. I already had Envelope (yet to read it) and just grabbed Direction, as it's selling at 99p over here.

The time I have left is mostly being spent reading and replying to e-mails. Ugh. It's temporary, as I don't feel that reading e-mails is TRUE relaxation. @ @
As Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, "For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." I've accepted what I need to do for now, but am looking forward to the next season when I can slow down a bit. :-)

Oops! Sorry, I trod on your toes, Jeanne! That’s what happens when I start posting before I catch up with my in-box.
No worries, Abigail. I jumped too soon and declared it wasn't on sale and then it was... delayed a bit behind those across the pond. So, I was able to grab it. At least we are on top of it. This lets our friends know that might want to purchase it. Thanks...

We had a bit of discussion a few weeks ago about Cookbooks. Here are some Regency recipes -- divided by income level -- put together by Jan Ashton and Justine Rivard. Hosted by Catherine Curzon.

As someone who includes many food descriptions in her own writing, it's sometimes striking that there aren't that many in Austen (with the rather odd exception of Emma, perhaps because Mr. Woodhouse is so obsessed with food because of his imagined illnesses, and Miss Bates, sadly because of the fact that affording adequate food is an issue for her family). I think that's why it's so intriguing to read Regency recipes, to fill in the gaps of what Austen's characters were eating! There's a rather delightful Instagram account that is nothing but photos of books with meals depicted in the books, and the Austen ones tend to be quite simple (but charming), like this one:
