Feel free to ask if you are not sure about something related to the Group, navigating GoodReads, or beyond. Anyone can respond and are encouraged to do so.

Megan | 67 comments What about unpublished JAFF? Can we count those towards a novel. I read a mixture of published and non published stories.

You surely can Megan, even if they don't have a Goodreads listing. Just give them a number on your list. Some writers who publish on places like fanfiction.net and other places don't want Goodreads listings created or reviews posting.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments I am in need of a librarian and I can never remember where I go to find them. We have a duplicate posting that is causing confusion.

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

It has an incomplete listing for the author's name. If someone could please delete it. Thank you :-)

message 5: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 367 comments You can reach Librarians at:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

The librarians usually respond very quickly. We should all appreciate them more

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments Thanks, Wose. I do appreciate them. I have read other requests and, as you said, there was a quick response.

I think it's this one:

Second Impressions

message 9: by James (new)

James S | 17 comments Thank you Wosedwen. That’s the one I was looking for. Wish the author was still writing.

message 10: by James (new)

James S | 17 comments Is there a variation where Darcy fixes his mistake with Jane and Bingley, Lizzy reads Darcy’s letter and Lizzy and Gardiners visit Pemberley but don’t meet Darcy?

So after realizing her errors, she sets out to change her weaknesses and try’s to run into Darcy and show him she cares instead of him chasing her?

message 11: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 367 comments I am looking for a GoodReads listing for
Determination

It's by C. P, Odom -- unpublished. It isn't listed under that name or under "Colin" which the author also uses. I have read it before and am doing a re-read. I feel sure I saw it here or it was recommended by one of my GR friends.

It is a story about Colonel Fitzwilliam's pursuit of Jane Bennet.

The part about her chasing him sounds familiar. Do you have more details? I can't place it so far.

message 13: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments Wose, I read it in 2017 but I didn't include the link in my review. The author name was all together cpodom no spaces.

I found the comments page for the story but not the story... perhaps he has pulled it.

Wose, I Found it!!"

Did you post a GR review? It was the GR listing I was trying to find. I know I read it and it wasn't on my page of unpublished stories.

I don't find anything when I search "cpodom"

message 16: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments I have a Word document file of my review. Apparently, GR no longer lists it???? I try to mark those that are not on GR but I didn't have this one marked. Not sure what happened. I keep a file of what I read each year and when I looked on my 2017 list of books & unpublished stories read... it was there.

I also searched under C. P. Odom and I have several listings but Determination is not there. Not sure what happened.

message 17: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 367 comments Well … now what to do?

Yesterday, I made a GR listing for one of his unpublished stories A Different Olive Branch -- a Pride & Prejudice Variation. I supposed it was OK to list because other of his stories are listed.
A Covenant of Marriage

Consequences is listed under Colin.

I guess I will send the author a note to see if GR listings are OK with him.

Thanks for your help.

Patricia | 111 comments whatever happened to a Austen Knight book Jane and me ?? if used to be on Jane austen center website and can't find a copy of it online anywhere

message 19: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 952 comments Mod
It was probably a short print run because its even scarce on Amazon. You'll probably have to check other sellers or find a gently used copy.

message 20: by Anji (new)

Anji | 735 comments I believe, from what I've read online from Caroline Jane Knight, that the distributor of Jane & Me: My Austen Heritage went bust and that a lot of books (not just hers) are languishing in a warehouse somewhere in Australia. She's been able to retrieve some, but not all, of the unsold ones.

How sad for any author!!!

message 22: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 1252 comments That is a long distance for her to go and knock on the door and say, 'Hey, give me my books!!' Bless her heart. That is just terrible. I hope there is some way for her to retrieve her hard work.

message 23: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 111 comments I just finished when jane got angry and when I went to share quotes etc to goodreads it does not pop up. I checked it on my kindle and nowhere does it say anything about goodreads for that one book.

I did win it in a giveaway . Is there anyway I can add the quotes myself I highlighted?

She actually lives in Australia Jeanne, so I don't think she had to travel too far, even for Australian distances. But it is sad, as she mentioned another writer who'd spent virtually all of her savings getting her book printed. But, when those who were affected were allowed into the warehouse to attempt to find their work, although Caroline found some of hers, this other writer never did.

I have noticed that problem with books I have e-mailed to the Kindle -- progress, quotes, etc. -- not linked to GoodReads.

You could quote some lines in a review. I don't know how to make them show up in the usual way.

Q - re-the group info statement of austenesque reads including books of JA's era.. do i add regency setting mystery novels etc ?
Would prefer to clarify this before i add them .. thanks ..

message 27: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 952 comments Mod
When I put that part in, I was imagining non-fic about JA's era, but if you've read some historical mysteries that lean heavily on the period and shed light on that side, then sure, include them.

Pretty much anything you feel has an Austenesque flavor is fair game. :) It's all up for self-interpretation.

wosedwew | 367 comments Does anyone know anything about K.E. Northwood?

The first book by this author “The Right Connections” has been withdrawn from Amazon. It was originally posted at DWG by author “Katherine”. I had heard it was a stolen story, published by someone not the author. Read the comments under the reviews here at GR.

Now a new book is out by this author: “Mr. Darcy Makes Amends”. Has anyone heard if this is plagiarized? I am not sure about the first book but it looked suspicious and it is long gone.

https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Darcy-Makes...

Thanks

wosedwew | 367 comments Just got a response from Abigail Reynolds.

It looks like this story at DWG:

Sophia (sophiarose) | 952 comments Mod
Oh no, what is with people, Rose? Those authors work so hard and don't make much on their sales so this is terrible that someone is stealing their stories. Glad you checked it out further and didn't buy their book before researching.

message 34: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) This happened to a friend of mine! It seems especially weird when done to obscure authors. I hope it's prosecuted as a deterrent.

message 35: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 367 comments In some cases, it seems to be BECAUSE they are obscure.

"Denver" hasn't posted anything since 2010 and only this story was complete. The plagiarists look for authors who no longer check their pages.

Here is a FB post from Amy:
Amy D'Orazio Author I believe this story was posted on AHA and DWG as Darcy Changes Tactics and the person who posted it called herself Denver. Real name is Janice, and she is almost 83... last I know she was having some health struggles. Hopefully she is still with us and can tell us if this is her book

message 36: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 952 comments Mod
Oh man, I had no idea. Not that I'm surprised at the lengths people will go.

message 37: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 367 comments Mystery is resolved -- Amy was able to reach Janice who has posted a review claiming her work. If you paid for this book, ask for a refund

Good news about this! It looks as though Amazon have taken Mr. Darcy Makes Amends down, thank goodness.

I've just finished reading the original Darcy Changes Tactics at DWG (it's also on AHA) and thought it was really good. Was going to download the free sample of the plagiarised version just to compare and then report it to Amazon, but it's gone already as has any listing for K. E. Northwood.

James S | 17 comments Why are there so many kindle editions of Pride And Prejudice released all the time. Seems like a new one everyday

message 40: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 952 comments Mod
I wouldn't be surprised if the reason boils down to 'quick money' even if it isn't much. Someone can publish one under a new cover, maybe a notation to distinguish it from others, and make a little money each time it's bought. Since its 200 years old and its not considered piracy, this would be legal.

Sara | 139 comments Hi everybody! I've been a little offline this year, but I recently posted about how the FFiction app will read the text and many were interested. i just discovered another hack to be able to read text from websites. I found a free app called "Natural reader" that allows me to input my website (AHA) and then it will read the text on the screen if you select text (not PDF). It's such a life saver as i commute and cannot phyiscally read the stories on that website but now I can listen to them. wanted to share the informaiton. I haven't used thsi much yet so I make no representations to any kinks.

ENJOY listening!!

I'm so glad. I had to purchase the full app, but for $10 seemed worth it to be able to access all the online content. YAY!

message 46: by MichelleH (new)

MichelleH H | 145 comments Hi everyone. I have a request for a book title, if possible. I read a JAFF book quite a long time ago and would like to find it again. (The thought thread that made me think of this book is incredibly long and frankly, weird.)

Anyway, this was about Colonel Fitzwilliam and his paramour at the time, who if I'm remembering correctly he couldn't marry due to her status. Basically I thought of it as pure erotica without much of a plot to bring to a satisfying story end. It was so early in my reading JAFF, and with now having read hundreds of other books, many of which have very warm scenes in them (most all of them beautifully written,) I am now wondering if I gave that book short shrift or my impressions would still be the same.

At the time the author's name popped up all the time in Amazon's suggestions based on my searches/purchases. But now I just cannot find it. I'm not a prude, so I am questioning my opinions. Was it all sex and no plot? Or was there a story worth reading? Sorry for that long-winded explanation. Can anyone help?

message 47: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 952 comments Mod
Enid Wilson wrote some hot ones years ago, but I don't know if she had any specifically about Col Fitz. I know I haven't read any published or unpublished about Col Fitz having a mistress so I'm sorry that I can't help better. Is there a way to search the JAFF sites by heat level and the Colonel's name to narrow it down?

message 48: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) I believe Meredith's book lists on Austenesque Lovers have an icon for steamy content. If you can narrow things down to an approximate year of publication, you could scan there and see if a title pops out at you.

Thank you Abigail. I tried Meredith's book lists, (great idea!) but haven't found it yet.

I have a possibility but Ayr Bray's books are no longer available on Amazon in Kindle form. You can get audio books, but I'm not so committed that I want to do that just yet. Okay now, stupid me, I just found out today that I could go over ALL of my KU history even though I dropped it years ago and just recently picked it up late last fall. Bray's books are the only possibilities from that list. Thanks.
