Hi Everyone!
I hope you've all been enjoying the summer and the watery splashy reads that you've selected!
The "Themed" group read seems to have worked well, so we are going to do it again for our next September15- November 15 Group Read!
It's time once again to nominate our next theme!
Once we have selected the theme, we will nominate and then select the books that match the theme: one original tale or collection of tales, one adult novel and one YA novel.
Themes should have something to do with fairy/folk tales or myths/ legends.

Serena | 19 comments Well, as Oct 31-Nov 1 is Samhain, how about that for our group read theme?

That sounds interesting, Serena! Do you know of any novels that deal with Samhain?

I'm going to nominate the theme Fox Wife. Seems like a good autumn theme, though I'm actually not sure why I associate foxes with autumn. Because they're red maybe?

Though I haven't finished all the books yet for water, I enjoy having a theme!

Shomeret | 286 comments I would like to nominate a tree theme. One aspect could be the World Tree. Another aspect could be dryads. Another aspect could be enchanted forests.

Mary Catelli | 1135 comments Huh. Last nomination time it was said that we would be alternating between themed and non-themed reads. . . .

But I will second the subject of Trees. Lots of stuff there.

Everything sounds great as long as we can find Folk and Faerie Tale-mythology inspired books in these themes.

Yes we did originally say that Mary, but because the themed idea seemed to work well we decided to do it again

I'd like to nominate a First Nations/Native American theme.

I just came back from a trip to New Mexico and visited the beautiful Pueblos and amazing museums, all making me very excited to read more about all the Myths and Legends.
So I'm looking for an excuse to read something by Leslie Marmon Silko Also I've been wanting to read Susan Powers new book Sacred Wilderness as well as a book Zanna nominated last time, Mermaids and Medicine Women: Native Myths and Legends
I plan on reading these anyway, but it would be fun in this group!

Zanna (zannastar) | 245 comments Hugely keen to read Silko as well as the mermaid book

Shomeret | 286 comments I like Native American/First Nations as a theme I want to read Sacred Wilderness myself. There are also plenty of books that are Native American/First Nations myths and legends related.

Leann (7leann) | 237 comments First Nations/Native American would be a great choice. I keep checking for a lower kindle price of Sacred Wilderness.

I love Silko, and I have The Grass Dancer by Susan Powers that I've been wanting to read.

Zanna (zannastar) | 245 comments Added all the books mentioned on the narrative American theme suggestion and will read them whether the group does or not

Sue I'm not sure how I can fit anything more into my reading plan but trees and Native American both sound great. If I'm able, I will join you this fall.

Is a Fox Wife the same thing as a Fox spirit?

Carole, that was the winning theme! We've already nominated books for that theme, so now you can join in and vote for the books you want to read:
