Do you think changing the title and cover of your book a good move?
I'm trying it with my book "The Indebted". It is now titled "Cop on the Hook. The story is about an honest cop who is on the hook to the mob.
I have offered it as a FREE read on Amazon Kindle, to test it out, on August, 14, 15 & 16th. amazon.com/dp/B00CD7PM4W

When I saw the title Indebted, I thought it was a book in the personal finance category. It has been shown that changing the title of a book can change it's popularity. Google the history of the book- Men are from Mars and Women are From Venus. This wasn't the original title and the book saw no movement with the old title. I don't remember the original title. It became a popular book with the new title. I will bet you even know the title even if you haven't read it.

Steven Clark | 24 comments If it improves the book then it's a good move. I've never changed my title, All The Pretty Dresses, but I did recently change the cover image and cover layout. It significantly improved the book's appeal. My view is that if it makes the book better, it's good.

Geoff Woodland | 27 comments I self published my own novel as 'Ice King' with a picture of a sailing ship on the cover. When it was picked up by a UK publisher they reissued it as a hardback under the title 'Triangle Trade' with a picture of a slave with his hands bound in chains. I must admit that the new cover is a lot more striking than my effort, but I think that my original title has a stronger link to the story than the new title. The publisher has been around for 150 years so I figured they knew a little bit more about marketing books than me :-o)

Tony Denn (tonydenn) | 24 comments I'm a fan of the genre and I like the sound of the story, the cover is good, but I have to say I'm not liking the title. Yes, "The Indebted" feels a bit generic but "Cop on the Hook" ... I don't know about that. Nothing I can put my finger on. Maybe it just feels a bit like a Golden Harvest kung-fu film?

Sorry if it's not helpful. Obvs only a personal opinion, so if the changes help sales, what do I know, right?

Keep us posted on how it goes. Best of luck.

I haven't changed titles, but I've reworked the Wizards series to make it a 'brand' and I've made choices to show that it's not about wizardry but psionics.
I also added a 'subtitle', but without calling it that explicitly; I added 'A Paranormal Thriller', which seems a better descriptive, and I've had no returns since changing the covers.
'Paranormal' seems to have been hijacked; zombies, werewolves, and vampires are in most such, although I have no idea why.
If anyone has a better sub-genre for books dealing with ESP, Telepathy, Levitation, and Psychokinetics, I'd love to know what it is.

I believe most people know that if you're on the hook it means, to be caught in a difficult or dangerous situation.
To be on the hook is to be caught in a bad situation, you may be obligated to repay a favor or money. When you’re on the hook, you’re in a tight spot. When a person is on the hook, they're in some type of trouble.
