✅4. Read a #1 NYT bestseller: Turn Coat (Jim Butcher)
This book, volume 11 of the Dresden Files series, was #1 New York Times bestseller for the week of 26 April 2009.

This no doubt seems like a very random choice for this prompt, but I'm trying to finish up the Serial Reader Challenge, too! :D

Progress: 3/4

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #5 (finish on Thursday) - Mrs. Bridge by Evan Connell. The writing is excellent, and the short chapters lend to a quick read. The author's style was interesting, and ultimately led to a lower rating. He presented his main character in small vignettes and as an object of pity by her children. There was never any connection between the small stories or real attempt to explain his main character's background. Maybe in 1950 it was understood enough to not require explanation, but the main character's life is rather foreign in modern times (thankfully). The ending was also abrupt and unsettling. Worth reading! 3.5 stars

Just completed #5 a book finished on a Thursday. I read What I Didn't See and Other Stories. I figured out that short stories are not for me, but some of the stories where not to bad.

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #4 (NYT bestseller) - The Marriage Lie by Kimberly Belle. Good, quick read! The author's writing was good, quickly conveyed her message, and without unnecessary repetition. I liked her characters. However, the main character was a bit too perfect, and the ending was rushed. I received this book as a free giveaway in exchange for my honest review. Worth reading! 3.5 stars

5/5 - challenge completed!

Crystal I will aim for 2 please.

1) Historical events can have a significant impact on the current politics and/or culture. Read a book (fiction or non-fiction) to help you understand one of those events. The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America

8) Earlier this year for our Reading Through Time Party, and in previous years for our 10K Member Party, we created Listopias to celebrate. Put your party hats back on and read a book from one of our member-created Listopias. The Night Circus

2/2

It's pretty good for what it is. This whole series has been very up and down for me. Did you know there's a buddy read going on for it? There's not much discussion yet, but jump in if you want!

Megan (lahairoi) | 7470 comments Just completed #2 (certain memory) - Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. Excellent! Everything you want in the finale of a great, epic series! Must, must, must either read recaps or have recently read entire series to get all the plot points and characters, but so worth it! Definitely worth reading! 5 stars

Ashley (ashleym99) | 1440 comments 3/3 I just finished Death in the Air: The True Story of a Serial Killer, the Great London Smog, and the Strangling of a City. The book focused on the deadly fog in London in 1952. The serial killer was not really a factor in the book and probably would have been better if it was left out. Also, to add a character the author threw in a person affected by the fog, but that also did not add anything. The book really focuses on the fog, the consequences, and what came out of all the deaths. If you focus on that, it was good. The other things, just take away from the reading. Near the beginning, I was focusing on the parts that were not really part of the story. There was also a lot of government focus after this incident and this occurence was partly the governments fault. Part of the thing to remember for this time period was England was money trouble because they were trying to rebuild after World War II. That is where a lot of the trouble started.

I remember seeing this movie with my best friend, we were in college. It was right before she was leaving for a semester to study abroad in Ireland.
