Contrarius | 9 comments I've just started a listopia list for Hugo eligible series. It's here:

Hugo 2019 Eligible Series

Naturally, as a **series** list, it's pretty important to be able to see the series names on the book titles. But I'm finding that sometimes the series name does not show up -- for instance, if you look at Emergence on the list, there's no series name.

When I go to the book listing page for Emergence, or for other books with the same problem, I can't see any reason why the series names wouldn't be showing up.

Any advice or ideas?

Melanie (mvalente89) | 2197 comments It has to do with whether or not the series information has been added to the title field of the specific edition on the list.

A book can be in a series (and show the series on the book's actual page) but not show the information on a list or your shelves if a librarian hasn't specifically added the series info to the title field.

I've added the info for the edition of Emergence that's on the list, so now it's showing up.

Contrarius | 9 comments Ohhhhhhhhhhh. So it actually has to be in the title itself, not just in the series field.

Great. I can fix the rest of them myself, then.

Thanks!

Contrarius | 9 comments Update: that worked for most of the books in question, but a few are still not showing the series listing. It appears to be books that I was able to place in a series, but that I could not determine an ideal series # for -- in which case I left out the #.

Any way to get those to show up without the #, or am I going to have to figure out exact series placement in order to get the series name to be visible?

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 198 comments It could just be a caching issue. I'd check them in a day. I'm pretty sure I have books on my shelves that don't have a number in the series title.

Contrarius | 9 comments I don't think so. Every other change is showing up very quickly, just not those that I haven't included a number for.

I'm going to leave it for now. If I get really ambitious at some point I'll try to figure out #s to attach to those!

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments The series info in the title field only displays if there is a number in the brackets so

Book Name (Series name, #2) in the title field will display
Book Name (Series name #2) in the title field will display
Book Name (Series name) in the title field does not display
Book Name (Series name, a) in the title field does not display

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 198 comments Looks like it works that way if the book is officially listed as part of a series. If it's not connected to a series page, the entire title shows. Interesting.

Oookay, even more weird: there are some that show in my shelves/feed but when I look them up to give a book link it omits the part in parentheses.

That is all expected behaviour.

If the book is connected to a series, the programme replaces the part of the title in parentheses with the series info. It doesn't matter what is actually in the parentheses; if it says "(French edition)", that will be replaced.

Series info (from the series link) in the title is not visible on all pages. F.e., the editions page only shows what is actually in the title field: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio... (the original series is in Spanish)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 198 comments Thanks for the clarification. I usually work off the editions page if I'm doing anything with the title/series, so that's what I'm used to seeing.

Contrarius | 9 comments Thanks, Paula! I may get around to adding the numbers eventually!
