Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments Melanie and myself will be reading Devil's Day, which is the new book by Andrew Michael Hurley. Please join us if you are interested!

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments I'm really liking this book. Did you read The Loney? I just love how the place/environment is like a secondary character.

Melanie | 1656 comments No, The Loney's on my TBR along with about..ooohhh..a thousand other books! I'm on page 30, enjoying his writing so far.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments The Loney really creeped me out lol.

This book is too, but he kind of sneaks the creepiness in there.

Random comment: It threw me off in the first few pages when he wasn't using punctuation for the dialogue!

I just finished Ghost Storyby Peter Straub and it's a very slow burn with some super sneaky-creepy. My next read for Halloween is The Croning by Laird Barron and I'm completely creeped out just by the cover!

Ha! Have you ever read Child 44 NO speech marks at all.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments Lol, I have not read that yet .I did read a book called Dog Stars which also didn't use any punctuation for dialogue. It was weird at first but by the end of the book I was used to it lol

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments Ohhh and i LOVED ghost story when I read it! it really scared me.

the croning is on my TBR shelf, i gotta read it.

Melanie | 1656 comments 100 pages in and I'm hoping something's going to happen soon, so far the writing's great but it's just a history lesson!

Melanie | 1656 comments Page 190, finally getting a bit more intrigue, but I'm thinking it's going to be one of those books where we're left wondering at the end if it really is the devil, or just devilish humans....? How are you going with it?

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments That's what I'm wondering too... I really hope there is a payoff at the end. I'm gonna pick the book back up today. I didn't do much reading at all this weekend unfortunately :(

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments UGHH Liz and that other woman are being so frustrating... they're so obnoxious to poor Kat!!!

Melanie | 1656 comments Rachel wrote: "UGHH Liz and that other woman are being so frustrating... they're so obnoxious to poor Kat!!!"

I know, but if she's going to make it in the Endlands she better thicken up that suburban skin.
I'm finally starting to enjoy it and feel a few creepy vibes. Have you go to the part about the night before The Gathering where they call the 'Owd Feller' down from the moors?

Melanie | 1656 comments I finished this tonight. Not quite sure how I'm going to rate it yet, it's probably a solid 3.5 from me, let me know when you're done :)

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments ok i'm back to reading it! i'll probably finish tonight or tomorrow AM.

i just got past the part where Kat was doing that dance the night before the gathering and she freaks out because she sees something on Grace (a pig mask?) but no one else sees it. ?! i couldn't tell if they were pretending or what!

grace is creeping me out though

Yes, that was a very creepy scene, thank goodness, coz I was getting pretty frustrated by then with the lack of anything happening.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments John is driving me nuts! i hate that he pretty much decided that they would move to the farm and take over w/o talking about it with Kat!

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments uh wtf @ him finding jeff and another dead man in the lodge!

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments ok i finished

im going to read a bunch of reviews now lol

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments i'm veering on 4 stars, but i wanna read some reviews and think about what i read. it was a good reading experience and i like his writing style a lot. i think i liked his other book better, i think there was more of a payoff in the story. but maybe i gotta dig deeper into the text, so i'm hoping the reviews illuminate some things lol

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments ohh in my googling i found this: https://www.screendaily.com/news/the-...

what do you think about it being adapted?

Being tv it'll probably answer more questions rather than leave it open to interpretation.
I've still got The Loney on my TBR, is it better than this and worth a read? This just wasn't spooky enough for me.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments I think I liked the Loney more. i really liked this one, but I think I connected more with The Loney. it moved slow too but i remember being more creeped out by it.

yeah i'm hoping the tv series won't be as ambiguous, definitely interested to see how they adapt it!!!

I still need to write my review lol, i will do that soon
